GREAT NEWS! Tom Phillips is Texas' uber-RINO liberal lying hypocrite of a Chief Justice. He's best known for campaigning from the bench for a constitutional amendment to deny Texas voters their right of electing judges. He is also the same guy who was behind the removal of the two Confederate Memorial Plaques featuring Robert E. Lee's quote from the State Supreme Court building after the PC crowd deemed Lee too "offensive."His resignation is a great victory for conservatives.

The only bad part about it is that Governor "RINO Rick" Perry will pick the replacement.

My four bits says that's the point.

Actually, that isn't a bad idea - I think it's better to appoint judges, not elect them. Recall that scoundrel Yarbrough a couple of decades ago - my family had some personal dealings with the guy, and he was scum - but since he had a name close to a famous Texas political name, folks voted for him.

Well there is one more REALLY bad part about this:

This guys is now going to indoctrinate the NEXT generation of liberal lawyers.
(Wonder how it is law schools manage to weed out anyone capable of critical thinking?)

There's more to this than meets the eye. My understanding is that those DEMOCRAT elected judges in the border areas are scum. They make laws, not interpret them. The reason for "appointing" judges is so that we could have REPUBLICAN judges in all those Democrat areas.... get rid of the trashy judges in the border areas and heavy D areas, who create a lot of the large jury awarded payouts. I believe it's what has caused us to have fewer baby doctors, and multi million dollar payouts, etc., in our state and the high insurance rates, including mold issues.
Hope this helps

Take a look at the picture of Phillips I posted above. I'd say something about its effeminate tendencies but I wouldn't want to start any rumors. Let's just say that, at least in a particular characteristic of appearence, he wouldn't deviate from the trend several other recent appointees to that same position.

It'd be nice to throw those border judges out, but it'd come at a substantial cost of losing our ability to choose our judges in the areas of the state that we do control. Yielding control over the majority region to gain it in the minority is a net loss for us. Besides, IMHO some 2/3rds or more of RINO Rick Perry's appointments to the "republican" benches are no better than those democrats. At least right now we can boot some of the worst ones like Xavier Rodriguez and Reece Rondon out.

Yes I do, though that was also in the days of a Democrat Texas. One needs to simply look at what's going on now though to know why an appointment system would only worsen things. RINO Rick's appointments to midterm vacancies have been cronyistic and downright bad by every measure. He's loaded our "republican" benches with guys who were voting for liberal Democrats in the Dem primaries only 2 or 4 years ago. Why? Because the politically connected big law firms in Houston and Dallas are really calling the shots there and Perry plays ball with them. That's how we got the David Souter-worshipping ex-liberal democrat Xavier Rodriguez. It's also how we got about a dozen downright crappy judges in Houston who all simply happened to have the sanction of their former employers - the same law firms that Perry wheels and deals with.
