Though alcohol-related fatalities have remained stable in New Jersey, the problem is still significant. Of the 1,234 motor vehicle drivers killed in traffic crashes in New Jersey from 1999-2001, 491 of those fatalities, or 39.7% were alcohol-related. In addition, during the same time period, more than 110,000 New Jersey motorists were arrested for Driving Under the Influence.
