Kerrey was having a meeting with Pete Domenici.The reporters will be asking Domenici,I believe, to see what was so earth shaking.

No excuse. Hamilton is co-chair of the commission, and was meeting with the president and vice president of the United States to discuss matters of profound national importance. That should easily trump an appointment to introduce a foreign leader to a non-government body who already know who he is anyway.
