I think Pete would have understood and rescheduled. Besides, Kerrey knew that it didn't matter what GWB said; the RATs already know how they will spin the report. Congress should reassert some control here before the Commission's death spiral is complete.
What do the Jersey Girls have to say about this? You would think their handlers would at least have them offer token outrage.

The former Nebraska senator said he had a noon appointment to keep with Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) to discuss funding for a project at the New School University, where he serves as president.
"I've got a full-time job . . . And I've left my university for already well over 100 hours of work to try to do my job on this commission," Kerrey said.Because the New School is such an academic and administrative pressure-cooker.

Okay, we heard Bob Kerry's excuse for leaving early, what was Lee Hamilton's excuse?
Most likely their early exit was in hopes that the lamestream media would call their early exit a sign of their disgust/protest. Then again, perhaps their whole shtick pivots around external exposure in the media and they weren't going to get any in that meeting. Which also explains why they probably tried to create their own, but the mainstream media didn't facilitate them.
What's President Bush's intent for the 911 commission? To honestly and with integrity gather the best possible information that will assist in protecting Americans and fight terrorism. Basically the same intent as the 911 commission was created in the first place.
President Bush knew the closed door meeting with no reporters and no transcript was the best arrangement for the President and the commission to gather the best information on how to protect Americans and fight terrorism.

"An apology non-apology. Bob Kerrey's only sorry he and Lee Hamilton got caught."
Actually, I think they wanted to be seen; they surely knew they would and had to calculate the 'risk'. And their wasn't any. . .it was a beautiful 'twofer'. . .
Having to spend two hours, without cameras to record their anti-Bush, partisan posturing on national television; they opted for a 'protest' and an even bigger spotlight, as they made their 'staged exit'.
Seems their 'hate' is only outsized by their egos.
It was a win/win.

Kerry and Hamilton are paraphrasing the O.J. trial, "IF THE CAMERA'S NOT ON... WE BE GONE!"
To: hellinahandcart
Kerrey appears to be in the early stages of Alzheimers, IMHO, based on earlier observations of that ridiculous committee.
Domenici should have told Kerrey he was nuts and insulting to leave said meeting and told him to reschedule with his office, next year.
Because the New School is such an academic and administrative pressure-cooker.
An "arts" school. With an MA in "International Affairs".
Yeah, "we spend your money".

...what was Lee Hamilton's excuse? I think he was meeting the new Canadian PM, Paul Martin.
Hello, Mr. Hamilton. Canada v. "9/11". Couldn't you at least pretend you're attempting to do the intent of the commission???
To: Semper Paratus
Indeed. It's a good thing when the enemy overplays his hand. And an opportunity.

It is patently clear now that the purpose of the commission is to politically hamstring the President, with a recommendation as to how to better protect American soil as a cover of legitimacy.
But what is also now patently clear to the panel is that instead of hamstringing the President, they are rallying support to him. Thus the interest and commitment of panel members has waxed dull and boring, so they walk out on the President, yawning as they go.
Certainly the President understood what the public reaction would be to committee members walking out of the white house before the meeting ended, and thus happily granted permission for them to leave... it went down something like this...
Backdrop: We're in the middle of a war, a grievous period for our country. The Democrats are trying every which way to collar the President with blame and impugn his administration while trying to create the image that they've never been in the loop of responsibility. They are playing got-cha politics with the commission and their supporters finally smell blood when the commission finally gets to grill the President albeit at the white house.
The anti bush folks are poised at the edge of their seats, wean Kerry asks, "um, Mr. President, uh, I uh, have an appointment to get to, um, you see I have this job, and um..." The President muses before he speaks, "... I'm running a war, and am warring with you Damn democrats, I make time for you to come and hit me with your best shots, and you ask to leave early... you worthless bastard...". Then he happily grants Kerry his request, "hey Bob-o-boy, yah, I guess, if you think it is all that important, sure go ahead, cut-out-a' here early", he muses, "what a friggin idiot... all important work of the commission my ass"...

"I've got a full-time job . . . And I've left my university for already well over 100 hours of work to try to do my job on this commission," Kerrey said. So make up the hours in the evening and on weekends like the little people do.

Well, hopefully Kerrey remembered the President's name.
I've noticed he has trouble in that area...

Cosmic Bob was Governor of Nebraska. His little fling with Winger was aimed at getting him national name recognition so he could run for President. It wasn't enough. And unfortunately for him his weird behavior is what has gotten the recognition.
To: kattracks
The real reasons they left early were that there were no cameras (so no face time) and they weren't scoring any hits!
To: kattracks
Dear Bob,
A proper apology does not include being sorry for how others felt regarding your actions. When you frame your apology in that way, you are making those who were offended by your actions at fault, not yourself. If you are truly sorry and believe you did something wrong, say so. Otherwise be a man and stand by your actions.
Sincerely,
ShandaLear

Typical performance by Kerrey and ALL Democrats;
Gloria Swanson-theatrics, cutting and running, and then disingenuously apologizing for cutting and running.
