"They say any cop that can't deal with a dog, and has to shoot it, doesn't belong out on the streets. They're a menace to humans as well as dogs."

Amen. That sums it up perfectly. : )

If a kid from the neighborhood killed a dog by shooting it, society would be screaming about it. The cop supporters on this thread would be saying that the kid has mental problems and needs to be locked up before he does this to a human being. To them, it is obvious that cops have a different standard.

"That said, events like those described in this article -- events which are becoming all too common -- serve NOT to 'protect' anyone, but only to *alienate* those on the right side of the 'thin blue line'. This does not bode well for our society."

I quite agree.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for saying this. There are still some good cops out there, God bless 'em!

That's a fact.

Nothing, he just looks like a tough guy....so they are intimidated. It really is profiling, but it doesn't count because he is white. Whenever an officer takes the time to talk to him, they realize he is not "one of the bad guys". Luckily, he has me to walk with most of the time....he keeps me safe from harm & I keep him safe from police harassment.

the laws of that state must be very different from the laws of my state of Ohio. We can't sue police officers or the police dept. here....we have to sue the officer's employer and that would be the City or if it would be a deputy...we have to sue the County.

Cold, impersonal, "you WILL obey, or ELSE" types. No "feeling", and damn little thinking, for that matter. Officer Friendly has been displaced by Robocop.

I used to live in Chicago, and there was another type of cop there: the guy whose dad was a cop and whose grandfather was a cop and whose uncles are cops, etc. Those guys were great. You see one on the street, you can go up and talk to them, even crack a joke. Then I moved to L.A.. Hoo boy, whole different deal here.

This is getting to be a regular feature of these stories. Police go to wrong house and shoot dog.

I guess it takes some attention away from going to the wrong house.

Our local police are virtually Mayberry as compared to what I read about. They don't seem to do much and I haven't heard anyone calling for them to do more. Live-and-let-live mentality.

Lots of dogs here and one that roams the neighborhood. That dog gets along with everyone and every dog. Shooting a dog around here would likely cause an uproar.
