You can't, really. You pray for him and stand by for him.

That's what I was thinking as well. The idea is a good one, and I'm going to try and send my condolences, but I'm going to have a hard time thinking of something to say. I want to say something very, very hateful about the people who did this but that's not appropriate to say that to him.
