Resident finds bomb at mailbox

A Genoa Township woman woke early Tuesday to find a bomb at her mailbox.

The bomb, commonly known as the "MacGyver bomb" so named from the television show in which many saw it for the first time, exploded about 11 p.m. in the woman's mailbox, said Michigan State Police Trooper Jennifer Hodgson, who is investigating.

"She said she heard two big booms about 11 p.m. and thought it was her neighbors who were known to play with fireworks," Hodgson said.

However, when the woman woke Tuesday morning, she discovered that the door to her mailbox had been blown off, said Sgt. Therese Fogarty-Cremonte of the state police in Brighton.

"She kicked the bottle, and it began smoking," the sergeant said.

Police believe a household cleanser was used in the bomb, which was made with a water bottle. No injuries from the bomb exploding were reported, Hodgson said.

I know. The author messed up - I agree that it was stupid. The "but" implies that there should be some sort of negative in there.
