The U.S. military uses shower curtains instead of iron bars to contain prisoners?

Something major is wrong with these images.

"The photographs were taken by several digital cameras and loaded onto compact discs, which circulated among soldiers in the 372nd Military Police Company, an Army Reserve unit based in Cresaptown, Md. The pictures were among those seized by military investigators probing conditions at the prison, a source close to the unit said.
---
It is unclear who took the photographs, or why.

Lawyers representing two of the accused soldiers, and some soldiers' relatives, have said the pictures were ordered up by military intelligence officials who were trying to humiliate the detainees and coerce other prisoners into cooperating. "
------
BBC just said photos and vidoes where taken in order to intimidate other prisoners.

The only thing I can liken it to is Mi Lai (sp). It is hideous beyond belief.

The girl is Lynndie England, she called her Mom and said; "Mom, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time"!!

Well, there's the understatement of the millenium.

Does anybody else think there has to be about a million fatwahs issued against this woman by now?

I am wondering the same thing.

I hate to be cynical, but could their be a money trail behind all this? It is an election year and I'd be curious if there are any embedded DEMS in the military.

Seems to be a little too planned, and the same "cast of characters" appear in all the pictures I've seen.

Maybe I'm just overly suspicious of this whole situation. It's like Larry Flint set up shop in Baghdad.

"The pictures obtained by The Post include shots of soldiers simulating sexually explicit acts with one another and shots of a cow being skinned and gutted and soldiers posing with its severed head. There are also dozens of pictures of a cat's severed head.

Other photographs show wounded men and dead bodies. In one, a dead man is lying in the back of a truck, his shirt, face and left arm covered in blood. His right arm is missing. Another photograph shows a dead body, gray and decomposing. A young soldier is leaning over the corpse, smiling broadly and giving the "thumbs-up" sign.

And in another picture a young woman lifts her shirt, exposing her breasts. She is wearing a white band with numbers on her wrist, but it is unclear whether she is a prisoner. "

This just sound bizarre. Mutilating animals? This smells.

I remember seeing videotape of 19 US Marines being dragged through the streets of Somalia, and the townsfolk were cheering and celebrating, and little kids swinging from the chopper blades of Blackhawk helicopters like they were monkey bars.

I'm stunned that you can't see that it's not the same thing.

Whether the photos showed up or not, the terrorists will hate our guts, thats a given. Now that these photos have been seen worldwide, it just made the PR campaign of the Bush administration and those in the Arab world that saw a chance to actually come to peace with America, that much more difficult.

"Who took the digital photos and why?"

Another thread with a Pentagon report said that some of the suspects took the pictures.

I wonder who sent the pictures to the media. If they did - it sounds like a planned effort to discredit the military.

If that's true - all of this was staged for a reason.

I repeat myself, at the risk of being rude - A good artist with an agenda could manipulate any photo in the world to make it look real, and could convince any 2-bit journalist with an agenda that their work was real. The reporter then takes the photo and turns it into a story for a quick buck. Bad news always sells, and bad news is always the lead story.

Remember the pseudo journalist who worked for USA Today for years writing fake stories to go with pretty pictures - and up until recently, got away with it for years? And for years, Americans and others probably believed the writings of this journalist only because his stories were published in an acclaimed newspaper. This is only one person who got caught. Ever wonder how many more headline fiction writers are out there with a license to publish a story under the guise truth? How many stories are based on what someone wants you to believe to be true rather than reporting the actual truth?

Doesn't anyone find it strange that pictures of Islamic extremists and cheering jihadists murdering, torturing, brutalizing, and burning Americans and their allies do not get the same publicity as those that may be spreading fake photos, fake stories, and fake victims during an election year?

The U.S. and its troops are under a media microscope - who would be stupid enough to allow anyone with a camera anywhere near a Military Intelligence interrogation session? This could be a Hollywood production for all anyone knows, or would be allowed to know.

The major part of Hitler's success was his propaganda machine. We are living in a world that is just as dangerous - if not technically more dangerous - than the world of WW2. The jihadists are global, and its WW3. Our President, troops and allies are not only fighting islamic maniacs, they are fighting a global media that is hell bent on undermining a rational basis for freedom in an irrational third world.

Facts are, we are at war, and war is hell. IF and only IF these brutality stories about our troops are true, one can't possibly imagine the stories that are not being told about the horrors our captured soldiers or allies are enduring. Just like Saddam's plastic shredder - the other side is not being shown - and won't be - until it is too late. People should remember that there is a serious media slant in this world, and propaganda against the U.S., our soldiers, our president, and our allies is churned out for money on a daily basis.

The horrors of torture and brutalities of war are the realities of an irrational, uncivilized world. Decent people cannot fathom or comprehend the reasoning behind mindless acts of violence - especially like 911 - when it is uninvited, unexpected, and unwarranted. The people who are at war with us do not go after men in battle - they are self-loathing suicidal cowards that target innocent men, women, and children. Easy prey means jihadists will get free press and free air time to further their cause. People who buy into unverified stories that portray terrorists and their sympathizers as convenient victims, also further their cause.

It would be wise to believe in our troops, our leaders and our allies before believing in media hounds who are being paid to spew stories backed by unverifiable photographs. No media outlet is without its liar, or agenda.

Show this picture to your relatives and then tell them to face reality. It is a terrible world out there and we are NOT the bad guys.

If they can look at this picture and say their is any comparison or that the Arabs are truely offended they are dumb as a rock. The Arabs are once again laughing at us because of the big deal we are making over this as they act offended. Really, I'd be ashamed to be in the same room with your family. Remember never to invite me for dinner. It would not be pretty. Now get a little spine yourself and straighten your family out.

Nonsense. People get hold of yourselves. My heart breaks and my anger rises seeing a post about someone's family turning against the war. This is exactly the kind of illogic that killed millions in Cambodia. Should Iraq be returned to Sadaam because some soldiers misbehaved in a prison? This is insanity. The total illogic by which the left uses whatever weakness it can to destroy what is good.

It's highlighting a double standard. I didn't see anyone on the Arab street or Arab intellectuals on TV condeming the Arab terrorists taking unarmed civilians hostage, used as bartering chips to get us to get out of Iraq.

Very true. It all sickens me beyond belief no matter the reasons.

It's just one detail that nags at me.
Even a small child tries to hide the fact that they "stole" a cookie from the cookie jar, but these soldiers seem proud without fear. Something just does not fit.

Has ANYONE confirmed that this woman is an American?

YES. We know her name, who her parents are, where she was born, grew up, went to school, did on family vacations, worked, what career she wanted, who made her pregnant, The whole enchilada.

And despite the "man-hating feminst bull-dyke" spinning here, she's a normal small town American girl. It's the banality of evil.

Do we skin cows in America, or do they just grind up the hair in the hamburger?

I can't believe all this craziness.

It if keeps up either there is going to be an American backlash or an abuse investigation commission will be created that will cost us Billions of dollars and we will only find out the appointed commissioners Gorelicked us!

There's the double standard of Arab thugs in Iraq and Somalia I just mentioned a few posts back. Not exactly Marines, Army Rangers, or any person of military stripe, they were killed because they were Americans.

Look, we've already had some subversive Muslim asshole 'American' soldier roll a grenade in an officer's tent and kill/injure some soldiers, then we had a subversive military Muslim "chaplain" logging information to pass along to the other side. So how difficult is it to think that we don't have some other subversives in the ranks, looking to undermine things as well? 1000 photos? What could possibly be the reason for taking ANY pictures of this stuff, much less 1000 pictures, unless they really wanted them out there. This whole thing stinks, and some people should hang from trees once the facts come out.

People are writing things here like "skinning animals. Why would soldiers do this? This thing smells." Earth to Freepers, the Geneva Convention does not prohibit photos of skinned cows, it is not a war crime and it is most definitely NOT a reason to pull out of Iraq. Get a grip.
