COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- A Danish soldier on duty in Iraq was reprimanded for using his rifle to push an Iraqi who made an obscene gesture, the army said Thursday.

The sergeant, who was not identified in line with Danish privacy policy, was sanctioned for the Feb. 15 incident after he and other soldiers were searching a house in the Danish sector in southern Iraq. The Army Operational Command gave no further details.

A Danish military policeman saw how the sergeant used his rifle to push away the Iraqi man and filed a complaint with his superiors.

Denmark's army said it considered the case "a serious matter and will not accept that soldiers show any offending attitude toward other people," Army Operational Command said.

"The Danish soldiers in Iraq have been trained and ordered to treat the local population with respect," the command said, declining to release any more details. [snip]

The old Monty Python "gay brigade" routine is not far from becoming a reality.

"The Danish soldiers in Iraq have been trained and ordered to treat the local population with respect."

I'd say the soldier had been respectful. He could have *shot* the Iraqi with his rifle instead.

"NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!!"

Seriously, what's next? Soldiers being reprimanded and accused of "atrocities" for looking cross-eyed at Iraqis?

The scene from Beverly Hills Cop where the cop slugs Eddie Murphy, then backs off and is like, "I am so sorry, you may file a grievance if you wish" springs to mind.

Nope it can't.

It's over already. We are just watching it peter out.

I called it over already after Fallujah.

You can SHOOT him with a rifle but you cannot PUSH him with a rifle.
