What a shame this woman decided to cheapen her husband's death.

Maybe her husband felt she was worth fighting to protect.

Too bad she doesn't honor that commitment.

There's so many cold responses I could give, but the truth of the matter is that I'm sorry for her loss, and I grieve with her. A shame that she doesn't bother to rail against France, Canada, Germany and other nations that should be in Iraq as well.

Had those other nations been there with troops, perhaps her darling might not have had to be deployed, or there might have been more troops for protective duties, etc.

But such a point of view is absent; it's not in the editor or reporter's selfish interest to bring up the topic for discussion.

Women have the most wimpy viewpoints on the world. I don't know why we even listen to them. No logic whatsoever. No facts whatsoever. Just emotion. Like children. Where are the adult women in the US, who can combine their feminine emotion with facts and logic and draw compassionate yet reasonable conclusions? Sorry, I'm just in a bad mood.

You use this woman as your mouthpiece. You don't like the war so you use her. The cut and run crowd are ostriches who want to wish away reality. A reality that we need MidEast oil and want to make it more secure for us. Rather than having the extreme Muslims calling the shots.

Wars are difficult and require staying power, not self indulgence of ones emotions.

lot of people are not proud, but they have no choice. They can't say otherwise."

I can understand she is in pain due to the death of her husband .. but we don't have a draft here .. her husband choose to join the military and I'm sure he did so with pride

Lavinia continues, "I wish I was there to watch over him and tell them that it's not right to send him as part of a protective escort when he could barely shoot."

And he still voluntarily joined the Guard? I have to respect someone willing to standup for their beliefs despite personal shortcoming.

What a shame his wife can't respect her own husband.

You post one disgusting thread after another that tear down this war. There's plenty of room for you at Lew Rockwell, Anti-war and DU. Only a dufus is oblivious of your anti Iraq agenda. The war is in a tough phase so this is when you choose to spread demoralizing garbage.

You have plenty of company on the left, with Democrats, with John Kerry, and college age anarchist kooks. Lovely!

I have a few Romanian friends and have been there a little bit. From what little I've seen, I think the kind of patriotism and willingness to sacrifice we have here is much less prevalent there. I think it is an artifact of their history and geography. A country made up of previously warring factions united only in 1918. Dominated or invaded by bigger neighbors (Soviet Union, Hungary, Germany). Kept under the thumb of a viscious, corrupt dictator for decades. Romanians tend to be a bit cynical in my observation. Given that and the fact that this very young woman lost her husband, I would say that her feelings are understandable and unremarkable and may not even be this negative. Who chose to write and publish this story and why?

This is why women are so beautiful...this is also why women have no place in war...our species has so far to go

Surviving spouses have two choices: do honor to their loved one by supporting the cause for which s/he died or rail against the cause for which s/he fought and died, thereby diminishing the cause for which their loved one gave his/her life.

The former gives honor, the latter makes a political statement.

Its a damn shame this womam choose the wrong path.

"I'm very proud of my husband, but I'm not proud of the reason he was there, and neither was he. A lot of people are not proud, but they have no choice. They can't say otherwise."

The military defends democracy. It doesn't practice it.

The media is just exploiting these grief stricken widows who understandably care more about their lost husbands then the rule of military law. But when you get down to it, in the military, you follow orders. End of story. Their husbands knew it. They are just having trouble coping with it. And their grief is being exploited by the antis.

Deaths in war are grievous to a family. The very thoughts that they might occur often become grievous and ultimately paralyzing to other families. And the result is often the death that was feared - and many, many more of them.

Before December 7, 1941, reports and photographs of war and dying in Europe and areas in Japan's reach were distasteful to Americans. Americans wanted nothing to do with war - they said it was "none of our business" what Hitler and the Japanese warlords were doing.

That refusal to stand up to murderous tyrants during the 1930's cost us - and the world - dearly. This was seen as weakness in the moral fibre of Americans. And that spurred Hitler and the Japanese on to more aggression - culminating in the attack on Pearl Harbor.

An estimated 55 million persons - correct - were killed in WWII, including many, many of the best U.S. men and women. There were serious questions in 1941 whether the U.S. and England would survive.

May the people of this nation remember this - even just a little - on May 29 when the WWII Memorial is dedicated in D.C.

Perhaps if her husband hadn't really minded being there, and saw the purpose of it, like so many other Soldiers apparently do, maybe she wouldn't feel so bitter.

But her husband's sacrifice gives her the ability to spout off from now until doomsday, anyone that tries to lay a finger on her because of what she says is in a losing battle. Best thing to do is just move on, if it becomes apparent that she wants to beat the drum on this.

If she does that she'll go the way of the 911 widows, draining what natural sympathy is there away.

This is old news. I hope this Widow has sought help. She wasn't doing well at all when she had this press conference. Too bad that she embraced the very press that made a mockery of her husbands funeral. She probably never noticed the reporter who actually climbed a tree just in order to snap a photo of her as she was presented her husband flag.

This is a volunteer military why is it that those left behind by our brave ones can not honor their memory and service?

Do we need to cover remedial Anti-War group ties around here?

Families are being used by the likes of people they would normally never be comfortable being associated with. Families are being contacted after loosing a loved one by MFSO and BTHN. Check out the links on their website. Check out Media Benjamin and her lovely crew who use these families. Check out their ties to Cuba. The left in embracing radical Islam because they both have the same agenda. Demoralize the our troops, their families and bring down our country.

ANSWER has quoted on their website that they fully support the insurgency in Iraq. Do you realize that they are fully supporting the death of our troops? The majority of the families cringe and recoil when families speak out like this. We disagree but there for the grace of God goes ourselves. This all goes much further than freedom of speech. This goes straight to the matter of war against our freedom and our republic. Enough is enough.

I quit reading when I saw the hyphenated name. Tell me, is this like the Michael S Berg scenario where the family member takes a leak on the family plot.
