A wagon carrying a large cargo had a particularly heavy damage, revealed on 6th (of May, 2004) by a military news source who has great expertise on Korean matters." According to the source, "the content of the cargo is unknown. However, after the accident, N. Korean military personnels in protective suits arrived at the scene, and recovered the remains of the destroyed wagon. We strongly suspect that the accident occurred while transporting a top-secret cargo between N. Korea and Syria."

Syrian casualties went home via a Syrian transport plane on May 1st, which was there to pick up the cargo. All personnels involved in the transport (of Syrians), both Syrians and N. Koreans, were again wearing protective suits.

I guess the cargo wasn't oil and liquified petroleum as initially suggested in the news but discounted as very unlikely by many smart freepers!

Chances are they are participating in more than "relief efforts." My guess is that they are there for damage control and recovery of incriminating evidence, to make sure that evidence - physical or otherwise - as to what really caused the explosion doesn't get out.

Also, dictatorships often accept aid in a particular order, preferring not to accept aid from enemy countries unless absolutely necessary. So, they would accept aid from China and Syria before accepting aid from the US.

This is true. China was right in there near helping out, time elapsed, days later, South Korea was able to bring relief efforts into North Korea.

I have a feeling he's refering to Chernobyl, but I fail to see his point. Reagan did not attack Chernobyl. And there's a great deal of tinfoil that someone (the US?) attacked N.Korea. I don't buy it. Bush isn't looking for another conflict.

No, I'm not talking about Chernobyl (which is in the Ukraine). I'm talking about a massive 1982 gas-pipeline explosion. Basically, the CIA formed front companies to sell the Soviet Union technology to control the flow of natural gas. The computerized technology was programmed to work normally so as to pass quality-control testing. A preprogrammed "bug" suddenly caused a pressure buildup in the natural-gas pipeline so severe that the pipeline burst over a wide area, causing a huge explosion and fire. This explosion appeared as a nuclear blast--except that it wasn't nuclear. Because it occurred in a remote part of Siberia, there were no casualties, although consequent delivery problems seriously damaged the struggling Communist economy.
