US Treasury Freezes Assets of Bosnian Charities Suspected of Financing al-Qaeda

US banks were ordered to freeze the assets of three Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) charities, suspected of financing the al- Qaeda terrorist network Thursday (6 May). The US Treasury Department also asked the UN to add the charities to its list of suspected terrorist financiers.

The three charities are Al Furqan, Al Haramain & Al Masjed Al-Aqsa Charity Foundation and the BiH branch of Taibah International, the treasury department said in a statement.

"Unfortunately, we have seen the vulnerabilities of charities in countries like Bosnia and Herzegovina, where there is not only a need for charitable giving but also a susceptibility that such institutions will be co-opted by terrorist sympathizers," said the department's Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Executive Office of Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes, Juan Zarate.

In addition to freezing any assets the charities may have in US banks, the measure also implies that US citizens are barred from conducting any financial transactions with them.

Al Furqan, which the Treasury said had "ostensibly ceased operations in 2002'', was linked to the Global Relief Foundation -- a BiH based organisation designated as a terrorist financier about two years ago. The newly designated Islamic charity, according to the treasury department, funnelled funds not only into Osama bin Laden's network but other terrorist groups as well. Its offshoots -- Sirat and Istikamet -- are still acting on its behalf in BiH, the agency said.

The BiH branch of Taibah International was also linked to the Global Relief Foundation Quoting the treasury statement, an AP report said Al Haramain & Al Masjed Al-Aqsa Charity Foundation had ties to al-Qaeda financier Wa'el Hamza Julaidan, who was added to a terrorist blacklist in 2002.

In other news, the BiH Ministry of Interior reportedly is preparing a report for the UN Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Committee on the possible existence of terrorist organisation cells in the country, particularly al-Qaeda, as well as on measures taken to prevent the recruitment of terrorists from BiH.

These grandmasters of taqiyya are just trying to pull the wool over our eyes, as usual. Not only are they financing terrorism and gradually islamizing a once secular or moderate population, but they are also funneling hordes of illegal immigrants from all over the islamic world into Western Europe.
