WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-PA) issued the following statement regarding John Kerry’s record on health care issues:
"John Kerry's opposition to last year's Medicare bill shows how out of touch he is with Pennsylvania. Kerry fought against President Bush's initiative to provide affordable prescription drugs for Pennsylvania's seniors. From raising the physical therapy cap to increasing funding for home health providers, the legislation Kerry tried to block allocated $1.5 billion in Medicare funding for doctors, hospitals and other health care providers in Pennsylvania over the next ten years. That includes a $648 million increase in Pennsylvania funding for health care benefits for rural hospitals.
"Even worse, Kerry's vote would have cost Erie hospitals, who are struggling to meet local needs, $14.7 million over the next five years. While he's here, Kerry should visit Hamot and St. Vincent's and explain his failure to support these vital local institutions.”
