Since I may be in proximity to them, do you happen to know the LAW about what you can and can't say to them? :-)

Don't forget bail money.

Don't waste your prayers, much less your breath.
There are too many RINOs in the Senate, and in order to get this through, they would have to hang tough. I just don't see it happening, ever.

Specter wants to be Chairman of the Judiciary Committee... expect an election year conversion (I believe he got months worth of RINO fireworks out in his post-primary display).
He will go for it. Use him while he's useful -- even he knows that, if he wants to remain in the Senate, he will need Toomey votes.

The GOP better wake up and leave the knives at home. This is a gunfight.
Knives? I'd be happy if the Reps would bring their hypothetical butter knives as it would be an improvement.
You gain *nothing* as a senator to the right of center by cooperating with or surrendering to the Dems. The Dems' media friends will still attack you as the American version of Al Qaeda and the Demies themselves will still claim you are trying to oppose a fascist system on the nation.
So for God's sake, fight for your principles. Whether you win or lose at least you've done something worthwhile with your office.
Sigh.
I know saying this on FR is the epitome of preaching to the choir, but fundamentally what else can we do?
To: ATOMIC_PUNK
I wonder to what extent Senate Republicans realize how they are perceived in the GOP grassroots.
Maybe they just don't care. They have their power and know how to hold onto it.
To: CWW
Nah. They're wimps who are more interested in being buddies with the Dims than doing the people's business.

The only answer I have is not usually one that people want to hear: That is for all of us to devote ourselves to the longterm--years-long--effort to elect more and more and more real conservatives.
To: EternalVigilance
But some centrist Democrats are cautious to join the blame game. There is no such animal as a centrist Democrat Senator. You would have to move the center about 3/4 of the way to the left end of the spectrum to even get close to the least radical leftist among them. For that matter, judged by my own personal spectrum, about half of the Republican Senators are left of center.

Unfortunately I live in the benighted state of MA. I am more likely to end up with an Islamist sympathizing, government by judges supporting, socialist scum bag then even the most skittish of RINOs.
Oh wait, I've actually got two senators like that already. ;)
To: CWW
Better not do it until after the election. Wouldn't want Kerry to get a pass if Bush should lose.
To: CWW
I believe it when it happens. There are two issues that I see that complicate the matter.
1) Do the Republicans really have 51 votes for this? I think they do not.
2) Part of the reason why they do not is that this cloture tool can be used both for and against them. It's a double edged sword and if the Ds take over the Senate and the Presidency, Rs will be unable to rely on these tactics as the Ds are.
And that is actually exactly why I support the 'nuke' option now. It is INEVITABLE that this rule will change. It will change either now or at an unspecified time in the future. All that matters is who the time of the change favors.
If we do it now, we at least have control over it and the first opportunity to use it. If we don't and wait, we surrender the 'first move.'
To: epow
You got it right.
To: swilhelm73
You have my sympathies.
