There is an excellent book about how western Christianity refuses to stick to Scripture due to its adoption of intellecual and western paradigms that reject the reality of anything beyond the natural or normal. It is called "The Collapse of the Brass Heaven."

Pretty interesting and gets into the influence of Darwin, Freud, and even Descartes on weakening the church's belief in its power.

Very interesting stories of the eyes of folks being opened to demons in fact being directly involved in helping to promote such things as homosexuality etc. in the church as well. I have not had that experience, but I have no doubt it is real. I remember one verse that even seems to allude to the fact that Satan sends his demons to try to destroy the church from within by having fake Christians etc. work within.
