re : Your comments are appreciated. Please avoid libertarian arguments of "what does it matter?" I'm really not interested in the opinions of those who think that way.

LOL only interested in listening to those who think your way.

Is it because you may not be sure of your opinions and need them to be reinforced.

Actually not. I used to work for the leading libertarian think tank in America. One can go round and round with those who assume government has no role in regards to morality--and that's not the purpose of this post. I want to find out what fellow CONSERVATIVES (not libertarians) plan to do about the usurpation of power by the courts in re-defining marriage, and not get into the same tired old round the tree chasing irrationality of "well, government really should have no role in marriage anyway..." arguments--which have been well answered--by myself and others MANY times in FreeRepublic.

For those who disagree with the Mass courts on "gay" "marriage," AND who understand government does, always has, and always will have a role in recognizing marriage, what will you personally do about it?

No. In one way he's like you and I - he posts to FR because he's sick and tired of having the opinions of Liberal jerks stuffed down his throat everywhere he turns. So it's nice to come to a forum where he can start discussions with likeminded people who can encourage each other with advice and creative ideas on how to be politically effective. We all value a forum like this where we can have discussions with fellow conservatives without having to spend so much time fighting off Liberal Trolls, that there is no time left for the serious discussion we came for in the first place!

But when it comes to moral/cultural issues, FR is a double edged sword:
(1) On the one hand, we can find plenty of likeminded moral conservatives here to have serious discussions with.
(2) But on the other hand, there are many Libertarians here who oppose every stand we take on moral issues.

There is a place for both (1) and (2) on FR. I spend tons of my time arguing with Libertarians here. It's great to have this opportunity to sharpen wits by listening to the other side's arguments. On the rare occasions when I have a brand new argument or factoid thrown at me, I can go out and research it and thus be prepared with a debunking answer for the eventual day when I'll run into some liberal at work or on the street who throws the same line at me.

But there should also be a place on FR for scenario (1) as well. The freeper who started this thread specifically asked, not once, but TWICE at the top of the page to keep this to a discussion only between moral conservatives for ideas on how we can counteract the "Gay Marriage" movement. He stated he didn't want to have this degenerate into another Libertarian/Conservative war on this one thread.

Why is it not possible for you to respect his wishes?

There are plenty of other threads we can debate each other on!
