Now, any open-minded experimenter could grasp this simple concept, unless they have a hidden agenda. Right? Hidden Agenda EQUALS BIG bucks in diet books and specialty foods.. Wonder why those darn rural Asians are so thin with all those carbs. LOL. I eat carbs all day, every day, its truly my main stay and lets see... 98 Pounds, 5'3" AFTER 4 kids... Patients in my office have been on the Atkins diet when it originally hit the bookshelves... they are now seeing the deterimental effects.. Including some rebound effects on Cholesterol, one of the unfortunates watched her hubby of twenty years eat a strictly Atkins diet, he almost bought the farm on his last heart attack. I did retain 20 pounds after number three, then was struck with the realization that i had as much food on my plate as my Hub. Shocking revalation, but i still have High School jeans i can zip without laying down or using pliers.... I just dislike the misinformation and the desperation of overwieght people, which leaves them open to the next miracle cure, magic pill, dangerous supplement, and anything else proported as "weight loss, without effort". Someday, the truth will come out, again, about this dangerous diet. Meanwhile, Mrs Atkins is mad cuz the truth is, her hub died of obesity related CV disease... Thank goodness she put out a statement of denial so her big bucks continue to roll in I am not unsympathetic to those with weight issues. My hub is one of them, but truly it's a result of far too many calories, a desk job, and no exercise. Thankfully, he knows without a doubt i adore him exactly as he is.. I cannot stand thin men, looks unhealthy. Good luck to everyone out there dieting! I truly hope u make peace with God about his love for you regardless of shape, color or liberalism. Just be sure to get careful and frequent health checkups with this diet.

He died from head trauma slipping on ice. That CV stuff has been debunked and he was also EIGHTY years old. We can hope to only have a bit of plaque at 80 instead of taking a dirt nap. Step away from the PETA front group press releases.

I don't. Rural Asians are physically active and do more walking in a day than the average American does in a week (and in flip-flops or barefoot). Now in the urban areas of China, Japan, and elsewhere, obesity is becoming a major concern. Especially since packaged, processed foods are beginng to show up in supermarkets even there.

Your reply is snotty and typical of many health professionals opinion of Atkins. However, has your doctor helped people lose weight? Have the experts been able to help the millions of Americans who are obese-including children? The high carb approach has proved to be disasterous for the average American. You are not average and obviously have a great metabolism. Although, you may still be subject to illnesses cause by your diet later in life. My Mother diliked protein and ate a high carb diet. She never weighed more than 100 lbs (great metabolism) but still ended up with type II diabetes and high blood pressure. Sugar and white flour aren't good for anyone. Atkins came out 30 years ago. It is not a new diet. New studies show Atkins to be quite healthy. Your reply is insulting really. Obviously, you know nothing about the struggles obese people face. ..being less than 100lbs..but you are willing to sit in judgement of these people. I am not obese by the way. My sister in law was obese and avoided judgemental doctors and their mean nurses. She died at 42 from pneumonia while following the latest high carb/low fat diet. Maybe if she didn't have to deal with nurses with attitudes like yours, she might have gone to the doctor-assuming the doctor wasn't lecturing and judging her as well. She spent a lifetime (struggling) with her weight and didn't need to be humiliated by the people who are supposed to help her. Maybe, you should consider another profession.

I've been on both lo fat and lo carb diets.

Of the 2, the lo fat is the most unhealthy I'd say. When I went to lo carb and put fat back in my diet, I couldn't believe how much better I felt. I think the low fat diet was slowly killing me.

OTOH, these days I do not do either diet, though I come closer to the lo carb.

Instead, I avoid eating too much processed food, trans fats, processed sugar, white flour, sodas, that kind of stuff, and watch it on the starches. With just a little exercise (15 minutes of running per day, 3-4 times a week) and not drinking too much, I stay pretty trim.

I think just avoiding the obvious eating sins can do most of the job for most of us.
