And the soils here just suck pond water

During one trip to Chaco, I was in thunderstorm, poured rain and the water sat on top on the of impermeable sandstone like a lake.

I visited Chaco during a drought, when fires were prohibited. A thunderstorm blew our tent down, so I ended up cooking dinner in the rain with a propane burner. Worst of both worlds.

At the time, the rangers were sticking with the local agriculture story, but it seemed far fetched to me, both from the perspective of the soil quality and precipitation.

If they were hauling so much stuff from the Chuskas, I would think they were major slaveholders.
