DEAD SEA RESORT, Jordan (CNN) -- The United States is doing all it can to get the Middle East peace process back on track, but "ultimately reform must come within," U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said Sunday at the World Economic Forum in Jordan.
He took Yasser Arafat to task, after the Palestinian leader Saturday quoted a verse from the Koran calling on people to find the strength to "strike terror in your enemy... if they want peace, then let's have peace."
"Mr. Arafat continues to make statements like the one he made yesterday about let's terrorize the region," Powell said.
"Everybody says the United States should do more, we want to do more, but Mr. Arafat continues to take actions and make statements that makes it exceptionally difficult to move forward."
Arafat has publicly rejected terrorist attacks, but Israeli officials have accused him of supporting such actions.

I await his next move with anticipation. Maybe a good smack over the head with a rolled up newspaper?
Good for Powell! Arafat soon to be the goat of the Palestinian people!
Arafat has been chided! Oh, the humanity! He'll change his ways for sure now!
after the Palestinian leader Saturday quoted a verse from the Koran calling on people to find the strength to "strike terror in your enemy..."
These kind of statements from the official US state department... COULD eventually be seen as a GREEN LIGHT to Israel to TAKE fatty out.
I don't know how many SPECIFIC outings of arafat I have ever heard from Colin Powell before. I am not sure I have heard ANY this direct.
The meetings with qeuria in the past few weeks, seem to indicate that WE are negotiating less and less with arafat, and more and more with other power brokers... THIS statement may be the official good bye "sucka" from us IF we actually made some deals with queria in those meetings.
Arafat would do better to shut the hell up.
Colin would do better to keep on marginalizing fatty.
And Israel should fry him at the next available op.

Qeuria is just a terrorist as Arafat is. They are all part of the Palestinian Authority terrorist regime. The US is in effect negotiating with a terrorist and Arafat as well.
I agree...
however, I believe we are distancing from arafat.
moving towards qeuria...
because we THINK we can bargain with him.
you cannot negotiate with a field full of rattlesnakes.
We need a two state solution... Jordan, and Israel.
Not a three state solution.
In other words.
Arafat is about to be whacked.
Arafat = qeuria. WOuld the US negotiate with the number 3 man in the Taliban and not Mullah Omar? Of course not. Arafat and his REGIME must be eliminated. It's not enough just to get rid of Arafat.
The US needs to stop promising a terror state to the PA.
We need a two state solution... Jordan, and Israel.
