Yes, I was going to say "Queen," but that is to matronly for JP (no matter how old she may think she is, she is not that old!). And I skipped over "Mother" because we have Granny and MamaDearest.

And, like Jill, we do something very important on this thread. We GROUP all of the incidents. If someone were looking for terror news, they'd find very little and it would be difficult to see any dots to connect! When you place all the incidents in one place, they become a story indeed!

[and we don't do it for profit :)]..which in itself gives it validity.

Good infro here and guess what all the did was DEPORT them...

SA may be host to more al-Qaeda cells

May 29 2004 at 11:58AM

By Graeme Hosken

The three suspected al Qaeda operatives arrested in Johannesburg and Cape Town days before the South African general elections are believed to be members of several of the organisation's cells in the country.

The three men were allegedly planning to target US companies such as McDonalds and others operating here.

It is believed the men would have used chemical weapons and explosives similar to those planned to blow up the American Embassy in Jordan, as well as the Jordanian intelligence office headquarters.

Information obtained on Friday night revealed that the Jordanian men, two of whom have been deported back to their own country, were part of a cell that entered South Africa late last year.

Cells are believed to be made up of at least four to six people
The cells are believed to be made up of at least four to six people and can operate independently of other cells. There could be a number of al Qaeda cells in the country and all are thought to have begun setting up operations in 2002 and 2003.

The men, whom police have refused to identify, entered South Africa at different times and from different countries.

The first man is believed to have flown in via London six months before his arrest. The others are thought to have arrived at least eight months before their capture.

A senior police official, whose name is known to this newspaper, said the men had all entered the country on valid South African documentation.

"Our attention was attracted by their activities in South Africa," said the officer, who added that the activities resembled those associated with terrorist organisations operating throughout the world.

Declined to comment on the matte
All three men are on the national watch lists of several countries, including the US, Britain, Jordan, Spain, as well as Interpol's.

The police officer said there was no doubt over the people arrested "and we know that we have not made a mistake in these arrests".

The officer confirmed that the men had been picked up and that two had been deported to Jordan shortly after the elections because of the devastating effects their actions would have had on South Africa.

The third man, who is being detained in a police station, is believed to have refused to be deported back to Jordan.

"If the men had been allowed to carry out their actions they would have maimed and killed hundreds of innocent South Africans and this is why we acted the way we did and deported them," said the officer.

He said intelligence investigations were under way, but declined to state the nature of the operations for fear of jeopardising them.

It has been learnt however that, among other things, the investigation is looking into a possible syndicate which has operatives in the department of home affairs, which has been supplying the terror organisation with South African identity documents.

National police Director Sally de Beer declined to comment on the matter.

At the time of going to press it was unknown at which police station the third man was being held.

I cannot vouch for the authenticity of this poster or the information, but hey, if you like a good read, it'll hold your attention to the end.

I am an historian from the border region of Austria with some background in the diplomatic corps, 65 years old and now semi-retired.

I have heard about the ´Aussie Bloke´ postings from a young relative of my family and what I have read has struck a chord in me. In short, there are things happening at a diplomatic level in Europe that point to a major catastrophe within weeks, if not days.

RE: Emergency planning, naval and military mobilisation

Yes, this is indeed something I wanted to highlight, although I am aware that some aspects of the naval mobilisation are now in the public news domain.

What you are seeing here is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of a longer and finely coordinated military posture that is being coordinated in tandem with confidential inter-governmental briefings taking place under the auspices of Swiss officials in Geneva.

Signs abound. There is a certain sub-strata of the civil service in London that, together with senior emergency planning officers, has been evacuated from its headquarters in the British capital. This took place very recently.

Many US military bases outside of home territory that were falling into disuse have been frantically refurbished and restocked over the last 18 months, and one must ask oneself why this is happening. The standard reason given for these unprecedented upgrades is ´preparedness´ in the so-called war on terrorism.

The United States military infrastructure is actually quite widely dispersed; a catastrophe affecting the land mass of North America alone would therefore not imperil the operational integrity of the US High Command. The same principle applies to American financial and economic instruments deployed ´in expatria´: instruments largely inured against an anticipated collapse of the domestic banking and credit markets.

I found this gentleman´s writings on projected meteor impacts rather interesting, as his predicted dates of arrival dovetail rather neatly with the current and future logistics pertaining to premium shipping lines, the navies of several large nations, military contingents and the movements of elite personnel.

The nation most advanced in this field of planning is Switzerland, where many in senior positions, especially in the security and medical professions, have been put on Stufe 2 since the beginning of April 2004. Even during the Cold War, most memorably the Cuban Crisis, the levels raised were hardly ever above Stufe 3.

I believe the levels in both Austria and Germany are lower. In the case of the latter, this is on no account due to ignorance or poor planning resources, but rather because of their concerns with secrecy and forcing a run on resources. People in Germany - and I live on the border, so I know - are becoming aware that something strange is transpiring within the emergency planning regime, if only because there has been extensive re-testing of the outdated airborne attack warning sirens.

I still keep in touch with many friends and colleagues who work for the diplomatic corps in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, many of whom are currently spending an inordinate amount of their residual time locked in emergency preparedness that goes way beyond any threat that can be reasonably ascribed to terrorism.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 221.71 points this week, in line with the direction of our expectations - but a larger, earlier move - as our Short-term TII came in last week at positive 22.00. Let me just say from the outset that the Federal Reserve has confirmed our Stock Market Crash forecast by raising the Money Supply (M-3) by crisis proportions, up another 46.8 billion this past week. What awful calamity do they see? Something is up. This is unprecedented, unheard-of pre-catastrophe M-3 expansion. M-3 is up an amount that we've never seen before without a crisis - $155 billion over the past 4 weeks, a $2.0 trillion annualized pace, a 22.2 percent annualized rate of growth!!! There must be a crisis of historic proportions coming, and the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States is making sure that there is enough liquidity in place to protect our nation's fragile financial system. The amazing thing is, the Fed's actions mean they know what is about to happen. They are aware of a terrible, horrific imminent event. What could it be?

One can draw no other conclusion except that the Fed is acting irresponsibly in its managing the money supply, in fulfilling its duty to "maintain a stable currency." I reject the notion that the Fed is acting irresponsibly. No, something is up, bigger than we have ever seen in the history of the United States. Let me ramble. Perhaps they simply see the ominous technical landscape we have been warning about in recent issues, and are attempting to pull out all the stops to avert the predicted crash. The recent rally in just about everything is similar to 2003's market behavior when the Fed pumped massive amounts of liquidity into the system during the first half of the year. This time seems different. The amount of liquidity is too large. The Fed is deflating the value of the monetary base by a fifth! Why are they willing to do this? Wisdom says something bad is up - big time.

Astonishing Aafia
by Ross Getman Saturday May 29, 2004 at 12:46 PM
ross_getman@hotmail.com
There are numerous unanswered questions about neurologist Aafia Siddiqui, made all the more confusing by the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

In a recent press conference about MIT microbiologist Aafia Siddiqui and various others, Attorney General Ashcroft credited the statement that claimed responsibility for the Madrid bombings as coming from an Al Qaeda spokesman. That statement had said an Operation codenamed "Winds of Black Death" -- involving a planned attack on the United States -- was 90% complete. He asked for the public's help. Thus, it is worth sorting out what is known about Aafia, the MIT-trained microbiologist, particularly given the confusing and contradictory media reports. Aafia's family ACLU attorney answered a number of questions in an email exchange with me in the days leading up to Attorney General Ashcroft's press conference. But just as many important questions are left unanswered.

Horse death signals West Nile virus

BY A.J. HOSTETLER
TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITER May 29, 2004

Virginia agriculture officials announcing a thoroughbred's death warn that this may be one of the worst summers yet in the state for West Nile virus.

And with the arrival of warm, wet weather, health officials remind residents to take precautions to reduce the risk of transmitting the mosquito-borne disease.

The number of wild birds infected with the West Nile virus have increased dramatically, as state health officials reported Friday that they have found 157 dead birds -- mostly crows -- between Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.
Officials found 75 infected birds in San Bernardino County, 60 in Los Angeles County and 22 in western Riverside County.

The numbers of West Nile-positive birds in Southern California jumped from only six two weeks ago to 36 last week and to nearly 160 on Friday.

"There's definitely an epidemic in the bird population," said Ken Fujioka of the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District.

Infected dead birds were found in 38 cities including Ontario, Claremont, Rialto, Fontana, Rubidoux, Riverside and Norco, as well as towns as far east as Redlands and west into the San Gabriel Valley. The highest concentration of birds were found in Fontana, Rialto and San Bernardino.

"We can say that West Nile virus is intensifying in that region of the state," state Department of Health Services spokeswoman Vicki Kramer said.

The mosquito-borne virus, which has been migrating westward across the United States since 1999, can in rare cases lead to life-threatening encephalitis or meningitis in humans.

Immune-compromised individuals and those over the age of 55 appear to be the most vulnerable.

Eighty percent of people who contract the illness, however, will exhibit no symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 20 percent will experience no more than a flu-like illness.

In one out of 150 cases, though, the symptoms can be severe, leading to brain damage or death in some instances.

Last year, the CDC confirmed nearly 10,000 cases of West Nile fever nationwide, with 264 deaths.

Horses and members of the corvid bird family, such as crows, ravens and jays, and some raptors, are especially vulnerable to West Nile.

As of Friday, the state reported no human or equine cases.

The dead birds testing positive for the West Nile virus Friday included 153 American crows, two scrub jays, one common raven and one black phoebe.

With the latest report, vector control officials ratcheted up their level of concern and appealed for public cooperation.

"I urge people to check their back yards and make sure you're not breeding mosquitoes," said Min-Lee Cheng, general manager of the West Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District in Chino.

Residents who fail to maintain swimming pools or other sources of standing water could face steep fines -- as much as $1,000 per day.

"We cannot relax on this issue," Cheng said.

In addition, Inland Valley residents were urged to take precautions against mosquitoes by repairing screens on their houses, staying indoors during evening or morning hours when mosquitoes are most active, and wearing insect repellent when outside during those times.

Repellents with 20 percent to 30 percent DEET should be used, Cheng noted.

The higher infected bird count indicates that the virus is prevalent in the area, Cheng said. "The chances of being bitten by an infected mosquito is higher now."

we are doomed next the cows now the bread...

Mysterious virus appears in wheat fields throughout western Kansas
WICHITA (AP) -- An unidentified wheat virus has agricultural scientists in Kansas scratching their heads.
The pathogen causes wheat leaves to yellow and die, but it's not caused by wheat streak mosaic, head death or freeze.

"We're pretty sure it's a virus," said wheat breeder Joe Martin, who works at the Kansas State University research station at Hays. "It showed up early and, at first glance, we thought it was streak mosaic. But it's not. It kills the oldest leaves of the plant and finally kills the head."

On Long Island in NY they are have also been doing this for about the same time period. They have set up check points here and they are checking IDs and also performing searches on some passenger cars and also trucks and vans. They have also been just pulling some folks over in areas where there are no check points to do searches of vehicles. My friend asked why they were doing this and they refused to say. He asked if there was something he should worry about like if they were searching for a rapist or pedophile or killer -- saying he had a wife and children close by -- and they still said nothing revealing other than they were just doing general checking on things in the area.

He has a brother-in-law in the police ranks and I am going to make him ask him if he knows anyhting. I know they all had to go to terror drill training in the past few months, I don't recall if it was local or out of state. All the cops had to be scheduled for it.

I will say that the recent serarching and stopping vehicles is definitely different than in years past when they set up check points mainly near the beaches on summer holiday weekends only to check seat belts and to stop drunk drivers.
