Two young teenagers killed in Tuesday's fighting in Rafah were killed by a bomb planted by Palestinians, according to a preliminary IDF probe into the matter.
Ahmed Mughayer, 13, and his sister Asma, 16, were gathering washing on the roof of their house when hit in the head by stray bullets fired by troops from the roof of an adjacent building, family members told Associated Press, but the IDF has ruled out the possibility of gunfire.
IDF officials said that the house where the two lived is located next to a school where terrorists placed a number of bombs to be detonated near troops. Soldiers spotted the bombs, but not before one of the bombs exploded. Officials believe shrapnel from the bomb caused the fatal injuries.
"While a number of options were raised following the incident, this appears to be the cause of the incident, but one should take into account that the findings are sill very initial, and the entire affair is still being investigated," the official said.
Two more dead on the Palestinian side, per "Reuters."
Ping.
The major new services were salivating for a juicy story. Even if it was a lie, the damage is done.
This may be a stupid question but do many people in Israel wash the roof?
Could these teenagers have been militants?
I'm sorry, pls disregard the last post.
I see it says "Washing on the Roof".
I have to stop FReeping while I homeschool.
Yup. And even with this new Rafiah school children story. The damage has already been made, even though it looks to be that the Arab terrorists themselves were the reason children and other civilians were killed. Even the PA was responsible, as they organized this thing on purpose to go right up to the places the IDF was operating in.
Just like the story of the child allegedly killed in a crossfire by Israeli soldiers a few years back. His name escapes me at the moment but anyway the gist of the story that initially came out is Israel did the dastardly deed. It later emerged Arab terrorists killed him. The first reports from a war zone are seldom the correct ones. Just think back to the reports of a massacre in Jenin in 2002 that turned out to be false. The media is determined to believe the worst of Israel.
I don't think the Israelis care anymore. They will kill the terrorists and whoever supports them.
Israel already has come to the conclusion that the UN is worthless. Now the US just needs to realize this.
Are these the same teenagers that - the day before they were washing the roof (washing the roof??????) - were running through the streets with the rest of the rabal waving their AK-47s in the air and shouting "Alah akbar" (sp?)?
Pray tell you mean our media "giants" missed that point??
Hmmmmm....
There has been an update on this story, as a British journalist went to the morgue, and asked for confirmation about the cause of death of the two teenagers.
A Palestinian doctor allowed him to look at the bodies, and it was confirmed that each had died from a single head shot. They were picked off by a sniper. There was no sign of explosives.
