According to The Note column by ABC News, Sen. John Effin Kerry (Rat-Mass.) is having dinner with New York Times staffers in Washington, D.C. this evening.
One can only imagine the conversation between Kerry, the presumed Democratic presidential nominee, and D.C. based Times columnist Maureen Dowd after a few glasses of French wine:
Kerry, "Maureen, I said I don't fall down, ever, and I won't fall down on you!"
Dowd, batting her eyelashes, "Michael, I mean John, I didn't say I want you to fall down on me (hic)...."
Kerry, "Maureen, you can't afford me."
Dowd, her eyes narrowing, "Michael, er John, (hic) didn't your mother ever teach you not to spurn women who buy ink by the barrel?"
Kerry, under his breath, "Damn, where's Howard Dean when I need him."
Dowd, "(Hic) Huh?"
Kerry, "I said, where's my cell phone, I have to tell Theresa I'll be late."
Dowd, licking her lips, "You know Michael, John--I'm so silly--my new book is called Bushworld."
Kerry, sighing as he slips under the red linen tablecloth, "I wonder why....Waiter! White wine, please. And call Ted Kennedy, I'll need him to drive Ms. Dowd home soon."
Pinch Sulzberger hasn't been this excited since he protested the Vietnam war!
Media barons love to be king-makers almost as much as they love breaking them.
I was at the bar at the Mayflower Hotel (downtown, DC) tonight and was told "Kerry is upstairs and may come down here to the bar in a little while," I said "thanks for the warning, I gotta go."
Smart man. He was at a fundraiser there. However, you could have done some Mel Brooks - Harvey Korman schtick and yelled "Count the money! Count the money!" if you saw him.
Will they invite homeless people and minorities?
LOL! Something makes me think of boiled rabbits.
