Ever go out with someone only to realize your date's a hybrid car-driving environmental activist, when your philosophy is, hey, you only live once? Or the other way around?
Such polarizing issues are the force behind RepublicanSingles.com, DemocraticSingles.com and SingleRepublican.com, new Web sites that aim to narrow down the online dating minefield to people who share common political views.
"With the war, people are getting more politically minded, especially in an election year," said Tony Sandoval (search), CEO of California-based Terra9 Singles, the company behind RepublicanSingles.com and DemocraticSingles.com. A significant number of people know they want to find a Democrat or a Republican.
The three above-mentioned sites, all of which launched in the last six months, challenge the "opposites attract" mantra by separating John Kerry supporters from Bush-Cheney enthusiasts and operate on the premise that when it comes to finding love, donkeys dig donkeys and elephants prefer elephants.

I'd have to agree with this premise...in most cases. I couldn't stand it if my husband was a bleeding-heart commie liberal. Frankly, I don't know how Mary Matalin and Serpenthead have lasted this long.
A donkey blind-date is called a pig.
My neighbors are 2 newly-weds that I found out are polar oppposites when it comes to politices. Whenever a political subject comes up and the conservative point is made, the wife frosts over (liberal democrat). I see nothing but trouble in the future for these two...
my dad won't let me date democrates he says there evil!!!
The beauty of Helen Thomas, the wit and humor of Maureen Dowd, and the intelligence of Barbra Streisand all in one place!
???
On the other hand, dating (and perhaps eventually marrying a Donkey) gives you the opportunity to "show them the light" and puts another vote in the "R" column come November.
17 years together this Sunday with my Democrat voting wife. She shaves her armpits, doesn't hug trees, and yes even voted for Dukakis. I use to always kid about having to recruit a homeless person to negate her vote. We are both fairly moderate, although we both always vote our parties.
We have great debates with both of us defending our points while trying to understand each others.
In our case, love wins out over politics.
HA! I thought that too! I've always thought dating on the enemy side was more interesting and challenging. Been dating a Californian girl for 1/2 year now, and the wheels started falling off when her therapist convinced her that I wasn't 'nuanced' enough when it came to decisions. Yet, interestingly enough, since I'm from Texas, these open minded calis all know I'm a polluting, foolish Republican that prefers asphalt to wildflowers (yet they don't consider cattle natural) and that I must prefer cormorants to be soaked in spilled crude oil.
It's been interesting, but I don't think there are certain prejudices on either side that can be overcome.
"I'm amazed nobody's thought of this sooner."
I think this is a good idea...someone actually started a single FReepers site too
It depends on the strength of the views --- could you be married to Hillary or Ann Richards or Janet Reno very long?
Mary probably has him wear a paper bag over his head with a picture of Rush on it, and Snakehead makes HER wear a bag with a picture of Hillary on it (evil grin)
That's the other problem with dating democrats --- their therapists who constanty interfere. It's one thing to have in-laws getting in the way but then add in therapists.
Now that was just harsh.... thanks, I'll have nightmares tonight with just the visual of those 3.
:)
Ive done the online dating thing and have been out with a few lib women.
WITHOUT A DOUBT! they are the most misreable, non trusting, always looking for your 'angle' women I have ever had the displeasure of being with. No sense of humor, no true joy, just a royal pain in the ass. They just seem very angry for some reason.
And oh, if you are a manly type of guy, forget it. I guess they need to feel that they can boss you around our something. Very strange indeed.
Two friends of mine married each other knowing they had conflicting political points of view. They didn't seem to think it was a big deal. The male was a Republican and the female was a democrat. She always seemed to dominate any argument they had regarding politics and he seemed happy to let her have her say and her way. Gladly, after a few years of marriage they are now both registered Republicans.
PSSST!! He is right. My daughter know better than to bring home a liberal after her first boyfriend came to our home. He was shocked I had guns in the house. That was the end of his visits. Real lib kid.
