WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Two journalists, including NBC's Tim Russert, have been subpoenaed by the Justice Department in the investigation into who leaked the name of a covert CIA operative, according to the journalists' media outlets.

Russert, host of NBC's "Meet the Press," and Time Magazine columnist Mathew Cooper received subpoenas from investigators trying to learn who disclosed the identity of Valerie Plame, wife of former U.S. diplomat Joseph Wilson.

Wilson, a longtime career Foreign Service officer with expertise in African affairs, believes his wife's name was leaked by Bush administration officials in retaliation for his criticism of the administration.

He recounts what he thinks happened in his book "The Politics of Truth: Inside the Lies that Led to War and Betrayed My Wife's CIA Identity: A Diplomat's Memoir," published in April.

"Wilson, a longtime career Foreign Service officer with expertise in African affairs"

Wilson,a longtime career publicity hound, who was so concerned about his wife's safety that they hid in the pages of Vanity Fair.....

From another report. Thought it was too funny. As I observed on that post, this Cooper Clymer is married to DNC shill Mandy Grumwald(sp?), IIRC. Wonder who he knows in the administration. Hmmmm. Could get interesting....

Wilson, a longtime career Foreign Service officer with expertise in African affairs

CNN's assessment of Wilson, in an earlier article..

Former Ambassador to Gabon Joseph Wilson
In CNN's eyes, Wilson's importance is directly proportional to his criticism of the Bush administration.

A tidbit of Gabon history

During the early years of the 20th century, when colonisation was still seen as an economic rather than a social or ethical issue, French private companies exploited Gabon by forcing Africans to work for them. Having only recently thrown off the shackles of slavery, the Gabonese were understandably bent out of shape by this new form of indentured slavery and, like other Africans in French Equatorial Africa, vented their anger in periodic revolts. Each successive revolt was quelled, and by the time a new broom swept these old regimes out of the country the companies had destroyed the forests, used up most of the other natural resources and sent the country into an economic slump that lasted until after WWI.

French is the country's official language

The interesting thing here is last I heard is that NBC wants to fight the subpoena of Tim Russert. This seems kind of odd if Russert has nothing to hide. I'm not so sure Russert is the fair journalist his reputation seems to imply. If Russert has nothing to hide, he should testify and it will probably help his profile in the national media. If Russert is culpable in the leak, he and NBC are in for some problems.

LOL.

He's devoted 30 years to the foreign service and he's finally earning recognition.

That's it! And it's easy to picture him in a linen suit with a straw hat when he had to go to the office.
