Someday, there are going to be human bases on the moons of Saturn....
Great post!
Human bases, probably, but unmanned. It's robotics from here on out.
LOL. My reaction was "Hooo, wow!"
Why is the Cassini image so washed out?
Cassini is almost there...
I was just thinking about those pix a few days ago for no particular reason. I've always thought those were some of the most spectacular pictures ever taken. Thanks!
Maybe, maybe not -- pretty nasty radiation environment thereabouts.
If we ever establish a viable interplanetary infrastructure, I can see there being stations in the vicinity of Jupiter or Saturn, both of which are big balls of rocket propellant. You could send "ram scoops" along the upper atmosphere of those planets to collect the stuff, and then process it in a less hazardous place.
But I really can't see anybody wanting to live on these moons.
You gotta be kidding BTT.
All your base ...
Look at the moon in the bottom right of the lower picture.... Really puts Saturn's size into perspective.
This year has been like football season year around. And this year, we get Cassini's orbital insertion, than football, then Hugynes right after. Very nice TV!
It's the imaging data does that. By the time they produce an image the data has been processed, sectioned, resectioned and colorized. Same thing happened with the Mars rovers. It was weeks before they settled on what color the rocks should look like.
In fact, hockey season was exactly like football season, what with Philadelphia being stopped one game short of making it to the big dance. :-/
I miss JPL. :-(
Absolutely amazing photos!
Algore will say he invented Saturn, but in reality it was Uranus.
