I'm a Foreign Service Officer. George Kennan, one of our own, is still alive at 100. The Foreign Service Journal recently dedicated a special issue to him on his 100th birthday.
There was an academic talking about George Kennan on C-SPAN within the last two weeks. He said that he had agreed with Kennan in the 1970's that he would write a biography of Kennan but would wait until after Kennan's death. They both felt that the biography would be more objective if the author didn't feel that the subject was looking over his shoulder, so to speak. He said that Kennan periodically apologizes to him for not dying yet.
