I always wonder if God's first step in confusing the languages was to tinker with the sense in which the common language was interpreted and under-stood...in other words arguements over what IS IS?!
The Bible doesn't say how long the process took before people were thoroughly confused with each other, but given our media's penchant for changing the perceived meaning of language...we have come to a point where even speaking English to each other does not guarantee that we can understand each other.
As people scattered from the Tower of Babel due to disagreements with interpretations and cultures...the languages themselves changed over time.(With God's direct intervention as well).
