"a willingness to risk his political standing for the policies he deems essential to our security"
I too like this portion of the statement. I have believed from the beginning that the President DOES NOT make policy decisions based on politics.
Nothing more can be asked of a leader.
Trust is the foundation of leadership.

It takes a lot more than communicating eloquently to make a good leader.A good leader possess a lot of different qualities.
A good leader is not afraid to make tough decisions and take calculated risks. Some people are so afraid of the outcome that they are never willing to take the risks.
Is a visionary who sees things that others don't because he is focused on the bigger picture.
Has tremendous integrity, not only in what he says, but through what he does.
Communicates a sense of calm in the face of a crisis.
Through the last 3 plus years President Bush has shown these qualities of leadership in the most difficult of times.
Through his actions he has led this nation through it's worst tragedy, even while those who want to bring him down were nipping at his heels.
There are not many people who could have stepped into the President's shoes and done a fraction of what he has done.
I am thankful and I am proud to have President Bush as my President.
I'll take vision and courage over nuance.
First, I think it's wrong to characterize the president as having a weak intellect. President Bush is probably about average for those who've risen to the office and slightly above average in comparison to the average person. I'm not that impressed with degrees from Ivy League schools, but the president does have a bachelor's and a master's from two different universities. His academic accomplishments are solid, and there's no reason to doubt his intellect.
Secondly, it's interesting to hear of someone changing his or her mind. I've listened to people discuss the election, but I can't think of anyone who will vote differently in 2004 than he did in 2000. Most people who liked Al Gore (or at least liked him more than they liked George Bush) seem to like John Kerry more than they like George Bush. Those who liked then-Governor Bush in 2000 like President Bush today. If I had to guess, I'd say that not one state will have a different outcome than it had in 2000. Maybe Iowa or Oregon will flip to the president's side, but even those are longshots. If this writer is speaking for many others, I could be wrong and the president could pick up several states this year.
I believe the correct term is "Misunderestimated"...;)
I'm amazed it survived the hatchet editing from the LA Times! BTTT
I support President Bush strongly . He has demostrated he is a leader in this testing time - 9/11, War on Terror, Columbia... He's not playing politics. He's doing what he believe is right for America. He deserves the re-election and I'm sure he will get.
God bless President Bush.
