I have been lurking at Free Republic for years now - through those scandalous, even traitorous years of the Clinton administration and since. Though I may not have always known it, I have been politically conservative throughout my adult life. Back during my campus days in Wisconsin, I first voted for Richard M. Nixon. I'll never forget the reaction when, in a group setting, I was asked by a school news "reporter" whether I was voting for Nixon or McGovern. You'd have sworn that I had shot Timothy Leary or something when I replied, "Nixon". It was way back then - at that moment - that I began to realize, at a near sub-concious level, just how institutionalized liberalism was and sadly, is. This, seems to me, is at or near the core of our problem today. Academia is littered with incompetence and incompetents. Many of whom are incapable of being successful in other truly competitive arenas. In turn, at a base level, they prove their superiority to themselves and one another by snickering criticisms and mocking time-tested values and belief systems that have served this great land for so long. They and their left-wing, elitist brethren, with their moral equivalence and politically correct agenda permiate our schools and campuses. Then, they educate a population of young people who, by historical standards, have had easy lives. Young people. Young people who have known relatively little sacrifice or hardship. Never before has an audience been so receptive to the claptrap that spews from the mouths of "respected" authority figures.
Worse yet, we face a multi-headed Hydra. And, the beast grows more heads each moment, each day. Simply watch the extremes that the left-wing will take to hold power. It's stunning. All while many of us on the right are spectators. Observe the left's tactics:
--The fear mongering to the elderly, the infirm and the poor.
--The divisiveness intentionally created according to income, race, career and even religion.
--The overt pandering to the teacher's unions, the bar association, etc.
--The deliberate and systematic obstruction of judicial appointments.
--The compromising of national security by obstruction of defense expenditures and dangerous rhetoric.
--The exploitation of liberal courts to "legislate" new law and to circumvent established election law. The name calling - despite the violation of their own p.c. mantras. "Trailer park trash", anyone? How about "house slave"? And all the "Dowdisms". It's endless.
So, we have a problem. And our freedom, our way of life is at stake. What can we do about it? - how can we stem the tide?? I think that is why we are all at this forum. Certainly, we must adopt many of the left's aggressive tactics in communicating to the electorate.
"We have no government armed with the power capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and true religion. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other" - John Adams

"The war on terror is not a figure of speech. It is an inescapable calling of our generation. The terrorists are offended not merely by our policies -- they are offended by our existence as free nations. No concession will appease their hatred. No accommodation will satisfy their endless demands. Their ultimate ambitions are to control the peoples of the Middle East, and to blackmail the rest of the world with weapons of mass terror. There can be no separate peace with the terrorist enemy. Any sign of weakness or retreat simply validates terrorist violence, and invites more violence for all nations. The only certain way to protect our people is by early, united, and decisive action."
- President George W. Bush March 19, 2004
"Time and distance from the events of September the 11th will not make us safer unless we act on its lessons. America is no longer protected by vast oceans. We are protected from attack only by vigorous action abroad and increased vigilance at home.
- President George W. Bush January 29, 2002
"This will be a different kind of conflict against a different kind of enemy. This is a conflict without battlefields or beachheads, a conflict with opponents who believe they are invisible. Yet they are mistaken. They will be exposed, and they will discover what others in the past have learned: Those who make war against the United States have chosen their own destruction."
- President George W. Bush September 2001
Wow,the above is dated. But here is a mini-rant that I am going to put in my profile.
Damn right. It amazes me that the libs are afraid of global warming, they are afraid of the plight of Africa, they are afraid of how the elderly will receive meds, they are afraid that minorities are unfairly treated, they are afaid that the white male dominates our society, they are afraid that we are misunderstood.
But they are in total denial that the islamofacists want nothing less than our apocalyptic annihilation.
THAT....is terrifying. And Al Gore epitomizes all of it.
