I Need To Thank Someone
Focault

Posted on 05/31/2004 11:42:47 AM PDT by Focault's Pendulum

You gave your life for me. I have had the opportunity to make and lose my personal wealth several times over.

I am not special, yet, thanks to you, I can continue to correct myself, as long as I live; you did not have the same.

You had to die on some beach, you had to die behind a hedgegrow, you had to die to win.

I am not dead. I'm alive and speaking loudly. I'm speaking loudly because you died.

Thank you for being my freedom.

That is beautiful. Thank you for reminding us, we must never ever forget them...the ones now, the ones in the past.

Who can speak for the dead?
I know not, but I shall try...

We did it not for the glory,
Nor for the fame,
Neither did we do it for the gold,
Nor for the marble pillow at our heads
We did it not because it was easy,

We did it because it needed to be done,
If not by us, then by who?
Our brothers?
Our children?
You?

We would have liked to have come home again,
To the rolling hills of Tennessee,
To the snow-covered mountains of Colorado,
To the crashing surf of California
To almost anywhere but this hallowed field in Virginia

But that would have left the job undone
And if we did not do it, then who would?

We did it then for freedom,
For our brothers,
For our children,
For you.

Stranger passing by,
Remember us

Greater love has no one than this,
that he lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13

Thank you.

Let us remember every day, not just today that freedom is not free. That many many have gone before us to make our country safer, prouder, and more productive than any nation on earth.

The way you thank is to make the most of our LIBERTY and FREEDOM. Explain to the young ones what happened so they can carry on. In this way these wonderful Americans who died on the land, on the sea, and in the air will live on. To me these AMERICANS live today because I can and do make it known that they preserved FREEDOM and LIBERTY. That is how I pay the debt that I owe them. God Bless America and those who died to save Her.

No, it isn't free, unfortunately it is often wasted.

Ten years ago in our town, at the dedication of the monuments for Korea and Southeast Asia, which were added to the refurbished WWI and WWII monuments, I said the folowing:

To those who served and lost their lives,
To those who served and remain missing today,
To those who served and returned bearing mental and physical scars,
To those who served and returned to lead normal lives,

WE SAY THANK YOU!

Thank you for posting this. My heart has been so full this Memorial Day weekend, while my fellow Americans are engaged in dangerous theaters. Only love can repay what they have done in enduring hardship and laying down their lives for us. Words fail. Words fail. That's the irony of it; we live because they give, whether the fullest measure of devotion is required or not. Yet that very devotion unbalances the scale and we can't ever fill it up again. Only God can reward them sufficiently. But I add my grateful thanks and respect anyway.

Thank you for your response. For some reason, I am overcome by the meaning of today.

All of us should be overwhelmed by the life we are allowed to live.

A big bump to this beautiful sentiment... bears remembering wherever we are, whatever time of year it is.

Damn, that was eloquent.

Thank you my friend. However, the eloquence does not do justice to those who fell so that I might speak these words.
