(AP) She held the attention of the nation and the world as a toddler 17 years ago after she fell into an abandoned well.
Crews struggled for 58 hours to rescue 18-month-old Jessica McClure from the eight-inch-wide pipe.
On Friday night she became a high-school graduate.
The 18-year-old Midland-area girl joined 113 other seniors from Greenwood High School near Midland in receiving their diplomas.
The Midland Reporter-Telegram reports McClure clutched a Gerber daisy as she stepped forth to accept her diploma at Midland College's Chaparral Center.
The newspaper reports nothing in the commencement ceremony distinguished McClure from her 112 senior classmates. It also reports no unusual publicity surrounding the rural high school's commencement in Midland.
Seems like just yesterday...of course I'm getting to that age where I no longer learn history, I remember it.
What a great story. That made my day.
I still tear up when I am reminded of that poor little angel spending all that time so close to death.
I pray to God that he blesses her life and that she keeps her eyes on His Son.
nice line about age and history. can i steal it?
you sure can...but I beat you to it, can't remember who to credit unfortunately.
Congrats to Jessica! May her future be happy and bright!
Seventeen years ago?
Naw! That's got to be a misprint!
It was last week........or the week before.....
Okay, now I feel old. It was just yesterday that I was Baby LoudRepublicangirl.
Credit what?--------- Just kidding.
"Seventeen years ago? Naw! That's got to be" a misprint!"
No kidding! If someone asked me when it happened, I'd probably saw, at most, five years ago. Seventeen is really incredible.
But it's true, as you age, you feel the time passes more quickly.
I talk to some of the guys and girls I work with and when I talked about places I have been and things I have done, they stand in awe, then turn their backs and giggle at the old fart.
Your right I am now remembering history, man's first steps on the moon, JFK's bay of pigs, the Missiles of October, the Berlin wall going up and coming down.
(I was asked if I was in Germany when the wall came down, my only comment damn trabeants)
Wonder how much will really be important in a hundred years, and how many will become the stuff of legends?
I'm rather surprised to learn that Greenwood only has 113 graduating Seniors! I thought it was a bigger school than that!
I share your experience!...I don't remember WW1..That's a plus!
I submit this young lady as evidence that prayer really works.
That was back before Fox News. You probably watched it on CNN. I stopped watching CNN back in 1996 when my cable company added Fox and MSNBC.
Oh, that's recent!
I remember Sherman's march across the South!
LOL!
A distinguished acquaintance of mine was teaching a course on American History, specifically the Teapot Dome Scandal, to a class of Senior Citizens. They asked how they should address him.
He told them they could call him Dr. _____, or Professor ______, or Mr. _________, or just Kevin. Just call me whatever you want, he said, hoping his many degrees wouldn't put the old folks off.
A shaky voice from the old lady in the center of the classroom responded, "Hi there, Junior."
