Owens for Prez. Jeb Bush is an awesome guy, but everyone will scream 41 and 43 are pulling the strings like they claimed W was handled by 41. Wait a few more Jeb.
As for Condi, I love her as the NSA, and as a person she's great, and if you've followed her over the years she's growing more conservative in areas. As Churchill said 'If your not a liberal when your young, you have no heart. If your not a conservative when your older you have no head.' I skipped the first phase, but for many people its true. I would like to see Condi get involved in California after she's Sec of State this next term. A VP needs experience in Congress, thats the VPs job. She is, in my mind, a good follower, (the 1st requirement for being a leader) and a great team player, but not a proven leader. Give her some more time.
As for Colin, same as above. He has changed over time, and an election campaign for congress will expose his positions better then reading tea leaves and speculation. He was A good leader of a body (Joint Chiefs), but the Prez must sometimes lead, not caring who thinks what, or even without consensus. Give it a little more time, maybe he will have shown his positions clearly by 2007. Hope they're good ones.
As for Rudy, he has proven leadership ability, and a positive, electric charm. But he is NOT a realistic option if you believe abortion is MURDER. 'No' now is not forever, and our country owes him much for his actions following 9/11, but No.
Keyes is awesome, and truly understands America's problems, but the pessimist in me says he will be vilified in the Media, and he will fight back, and thats what they want. Not that I wouldn't try my hardest to fight for him.
As for Owens, I am still checking him out, but I like what I read and hear. Pro-life, pro-gun. Popular and honest. Not from a 'upercostervative'state which would led CNN to decry him as a fanatic. My Owens-Watts is tentative, for Owens that is.
JC Watts is extremely, extremely well qualified. He has several terms in the House on many important committees. He has established strong links to many groups, and has respect in the Black Community. He calls it as it is. He is well spoken, and not easy distracted and never bullies or is bullied. He works to build consensus, but will go it alone. He was elected overwhelmingly by Whites, and as Blacks are leaving the Dems, they are looking for someone to relate to and to cheer on. He has avoided the 'Black Leadership' farce, and has done it his way. He is a man who relies on God for his strength and direction, and is very intelligent to boot. He supports the military strongly, and wants to sees America in a Reagan-like Black and White, with no shades of Gray. People like that, alot!
Anywho, Chaney should 'retire' to Hawaii in 2006, and Bush should submit Watts as VP. By then we will have close to, if not 60 seats, and get him confirmed. He finishes the term and DOES NOT go for the Presidency, instead making it clear he would like instead to serve another term as VP if the nominated Pres would take him. Owens would get the Nod, (IF REPUBLICANS WILL PLEASE AVOID THE 'DEVOUR EACH OTHERS YOUNG' THING WE DO SO WELL AT TIMES!!!) and picks up Watts. Now you have a strong candidate for the Pres, and a Semi incumbents status with the VP, not to mention the opportunity to be at least even with the Dems among Black voters. Are you hearing ANY of this Mr. Rove?

The discussions on this thread are disturbing, and indicate that the Republicans are facing trouble in 2008. Not only is there not an obvious front-runner, there aren't even any plausible leaders to step into Bush's shoes. It probably has to be a governor, since Senators traditionally do poorly in Presidential races, and talk of nominating non-politicians like Condi Rice and Rush Limbaugh is just silly. Giuliani is a pragmatist, not a conservative, and will be unacceptable to the Republican base. Jeb would be good if his last name weren't Bush. Bill Owens seems to have torpedoed his chances with his divorce and subsequent behavior. Arnold Schwarzenegger is not very conservative, but he might be a winning choice if it weren't for the small Constitutional issue of his not having been born here. I don't know much about George Allen...and neither does anyone in the rest of the country, which is probably his biggest drawback. Tom DeLay is the most hated man in DC. JC Watts would get brutal, Ward Connerly-esque treatment from the media, who would denounce him as a token from day one.
Bush made wise choices in selecting his Cabinet, but by bringing in the old guard for a second round he has done little to develop the next generation of GOP Presidential candidates (which, in fairness, probably isn't really any concern of his). Once-promising younger Republicans like Lindsey Graham and Rick Santorum have fizzled. Truth tellers like James Inhofe get brutalized by the media. John McCain tells the Democrats what they want to hear, but his Howard Dean-like aura of instability ensures he'll never win a Republican nomination despite the favorable media treatment he gets. And the media would work overtime to destroy Colin Powell if he ever became a serious Republican candidate - there is no way the Left will allow a black man to represent conservatism in America (on the other hand, if Powell runs in 2008 as a Democrat, he wins the Presidency in a walk - I consider him the great underestimated danger, not Hillary).
Unless some new candidate emerges that we haven't really considered, like Clinton did for the Democrats in 1992, the Republican Party is going to have big problems winning in 2008. There are no clear heir-apparents to Bush at this time.

No F'n RINO's! We need a hawk with a penchant for cutting entitlement programs a la Reagan. Sadly, the current Republican field doesn't have anyone who comes close to the likes of him or even a Goldwater.
A few elections ago, I liked a ticket of Haig and Kirkpatrick. Nothing tougher than an ex fighting-general and a recovering alcoholic woman.
Right now we need someone tough enough to beat the swinette from Chappaqua... the witch of Westchester... the bride of Beelzebubba.
Condi Rice has the superior intellect and calm-under-fire to counter Hillary's evil ambitions and expose her for what she is. No white male will beat Clinton in 2008... not even Guiliani. You can take that to the bank. Whether Rice wants to is another matter.
For our country, I hope she does.

You know...I may not be liked for this answer, but what about the Honorable Fred D. Thompson?
Sure, it would cut into his Law and Order role a little, but I always thought he was a great Senator.
Just a thought.

I'd like to see SC gov. Mark Sanford or former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson run in 2008.
But thanks to CFR, the massive media machine, and the frontloading of the primaries, it's going to be real tough for anyone other than the annointed candidate to get the nomination.

Unless something miraculous happens between now and November 3rd, President Kerry will be running for re-election and fighting for his political future against Hillary C.
Too bad for us...this election, we're also likely to loose at least the majority in the Senate, and hold on to a very very thin lead in the House.
Dems for the next 8 to 12 years!

Pataki is by far the most liberal govenor in the country. Compared to him even Grey Davis looks like Jesse Helms.
If he's our candidate I will do something I've never done and vote for the Democrat because no matter who it is (even Hillary) the Democrat would be by far the more Conservative candidate
