I would say Jorge Mario Gergoglio from Argentina -- a Jesuit and a conservative or Cardinal Francis Arinze of Nigeria or Cardinal Ivan Dias of India.

The choice should be between these three

From National Catholic Reporter
Six cardinals were selected to deliver addresses at the symposium. Cardinal Bernard Gantin of Benin spoke on the Petrine ministry and communion in the episcopate; French Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger tackled the subject of priests, consecrated life and vocations; Lopez Trujillo handled the family; Cardinal Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir of Lebanon spoke on ecumenism; Cardinal Ivan Dias of India addressed missions; and Cardinal Angelo Sodano, the secretary of state, described the pope as peacemaker. Of the six, only Dias is regarded as a potential papabile, or candidate to be pope.

I want the most conservative, the most outspoken, the most courageous to be the next pope. The world is going to need a man of unshakable principle if the church is to survive.

I'm reasonably confident it'll be Tettamanzi. The European cardinals seem fairly settled on that. The only reason for doubt is because he's the frontrunner. If not him, Cardinal Schonborn or Cardinal Kasper. The next Pope afterward will be Latin American.

Hoping for Arinze or someone of his caliber and bluntness.

Just as long as it's not a Belgian.

"Arinze is a charming figure, with a broad smile and an acute sense of humor. He is seen as deeply spiritual, sincere, honest, and a man capable of listening to others despite his own strong views. His theological positions range from moderate to conservative, and, in the blunt speech that Africans prize, he pulls few punches."

I've heard Arinze speak at Loras College in Dubuque, and the crowd that came too see him overflowed the auditorium. Great speech and afterwards he fielded questions from the audience... eloquent answers and quick on the response along with wonderful humor. We couldn't get that lucky :)

I tend to think we will get a caretaker pontiff after JPII instead of this guy (unfortunately) As the God wills, however.
