RICHMOND, Va. - Former President Ronald Reagan was remembered fondly by politicians in both parties Saturday in a state where he enjoyed wide support during his political career.
Former Republican National Committee chairman and former Gov. Jim Gilmore called Reagan one of the five greatest presidents of the U.S., and said he was an inspiration for him to enter politics.

The first Presidential election I was eligible to vote in was 1980 - needless to say I voted for Ronald Reagan.
We lost a great American today.

When he lies in state in Washington, D.C. I will probably be a position to attend. If so, I'll post some thoughts afterward.

I have been choked up since I heard the news. Ronald Reagan was such a special man, one of my few true heroes. I am sad with tears, but also joyful over the wonderful reminicences of his life.

This Virginian remembers him QUITE fondly.....after marching with fixed bayonets for the Gipper in Williamsburg in 1984.......Many of my fellow VMI cadets and I definitely appreciated the "amnesty" he granted to us relieving us of our penalty tours and barracks confinement assigned to us for our various transgressions against the rules. I took a bayonet in the leg on that day, but soldiered on anyway!
It was worth it to have the honor of marching for him.

Don't allow the media to spin Reagans death as they did his life. Go to the FR Reagan Vigils post and pledge to organize or attend a vigil in your area.

I especially dreaded this day then! Together we all willed him to hang on until a decent man was back in the Oval Office.

Don't feel bad. I've been in tears all day, and I'm at work.
He was my hero too, and I've had so very few in my life.....

I'm going to join the DC Chapter group tomorrow night at the candlelight vigil in Lafayette Park to participate in the Reagan Vigils. The Richmond group may want to meet on the steps of the State Capitol.
