I'm posting this thread only to provide a link to the Reagan Presidential Library's Memorial Website. The site will have funeral information, a place where you can leave your condolences, and a place where you can contribute to a memorial fund if you wish.

You may see a couple of other posts of mine along these lines elsewhere. But want to reply specifically to your point of driving down. I'm still recovering financially from the unplanned moving expenses (first, last, deposits, movers, etc., adds up to thousands). Right now, my two front tires are not trustworthy for anyting but local driving. Nevertheless, if I can manage it, I'm going to take Friday off and try to find a way to get up to Simi to stand somewhere along the motorcade route.

Drove by my local Republican Party HQ about 45 minutes ago, but no one was there. Will call them during the week to see if they are putting a car pool together. Otherwise, I hope to connect with a trustworthy FReeper who lives in my locality. If I can't get up there during the funeral, I'll put a couple of new tires on the car next payday and drive up to say some prayers at his grave.

Last night, I picked up some Chinese food to go at a local restaurant. It's owned and operated by a couple of Chinese immigrants who are raising their two sons and a daughter to be Americans. I was very pleasantly surprised that the wife brought up President Reagan's death. She said she liked him and was sad. She said several customers had come in during the day, and they dicussed Reagan. Some were crying.

There is a large part of me that is, figuratively speaking, holding its breath waiting for positive signs about where the country is politcally these days. Leave it to someone who fled tyranny to bring me a degree of solace and hope.

When even Peter Jennings acknowledged that Ronald Reagan was a great president, I finally knew the full scope of RWR's impact on this country and the world.

But you know who still hadn't honored or acknowledged RWR? The industry in which he worked for over 20 years before turning to politics. A 7-term president of the Screen Actors Guild, and as far as I know, SAG hasn't said word one about his passing. There's not even an acknowledgement on SAG's website, although they have "SAG flash" news links about Native American rights, FCC lawsuits and such. Beyond pathetic.

I want to thank you for marrying, and standing by President Reagan. He was my inspiration and will continue to be my hero. While he might have otherwise accomplished wonderful things....I suspect that his greatness was tremendously bolstered by having you as his better half.

Beautiful sentiments, FIM, all the more so for your obvious love for the man. "All in all, not bad, not bad at all." Yes, indeed, not bad at all.

I'm glad you left a message at the memorial site. And may I say I adore your screen handle. :-)

You and all FReepers who visit this thread are most welcome. I need no thanks. It's only a small thing, but the very least I could do in honor of the most monumental figure of my lifetime.

That's pathetic. It only shows how petty the Hollywood types are.

I hope to catch Laura Ingraham's, Michael Medved's, Hugh Hewitt's, and Rush's shows (Rush on replay late in the evening in Sacramento) tomorrow. They should all be at their articulate best.

The combination of the remembrances of Pres. Reagan, and of the sacrifices and honor of D-Day, have actually been quite a boost to my spirit this weekend.

I only learned during today's news conference that RWR's son is not a junior. He is Ronald PRESCOTT Reagan. The lady who gave the press conference said she understands there's some "sensitivity there." Sigh. I hope it's not inappropriate at this time to say RWR deserved better from his son.

I wish it were possible for me to listen to a radio at work. Unfortunately, it's not. It's allowed, but I can't get AM reception inside this building.

Thank you.

Mike (my husband) deserves all the credit). He decided to start a thread to invite all well wishers.

We had quite the troll invasion in the memorial site last night. Some of the messages were childish pranks, but a lot of it was the most vile, utterly disgusting filth I have ever seen. I was to shocked to even be angry, it was so sad.
Mike took care of the problem, though.

Here's the thread if you're interested.

I remember thinking last night that it is sad that he is gone, but he lived a full life and contributed much. And perhaps all of the publicity will remind the voters of the importance of electing a man who says what he means and means what he says.

I really hope so. Bush has a golden opportunity to weave the same message through. Reagan's era was the cold war and communism threatening our country. Bush shouldn't have a very hard time communicating that the same such threat still exists with terrorists. I'd really like for him to hammer home all of the terrorists acts against us for the last 20 years or so, and make fighting terrorism his main platform.

President Reagan was one of the greatest Americans in our nation's history.

Because you joined with Grassfire to honor President
Reagan on his 90th birthday, we thought you would want
to join our Memorial Tribute as well.

If you would like to add your name and your personal
comments to the Tribute, please click here:

http://www.grassfire.org/47/petition.asp?RID=494432

We will be delivering these tributes every day this week
to the Reagan Library. Once this Tribute is complete, we
will publish these tributes from Grassfire team members
in a hard-bound volume that will be delivered to the
Reagan family via the Library.

Thank you for joining us in this Memorial Tribute,
and may God bless our nation.
