Ronald Wilson Reagan: An extraordinary American
Manchester Union Leader ^ | June 6, 2004 | Editorial

Posted on 06/06/2004 2:48:25 AM PDT by billorites

RONALD REAGAN succeeded because he believed in America and Americans believed in him. It was as simple as that.

He was one of our greatest Presidents. This newspaper joins its readers, New Hampshire, and the nation in mourning his passing yesterday and celebrating his extraordinary life.

Reagan baffled the political pundits and media elite in part because many of their number didn’t share or understand his beliefs. Therefore, they thought it was all an act by the smiling fellow who came to government by way of Hollywood.

But the man became known as the Great Communicator because his love of country and fidelity to a conservative ideology were no act. He was simply telling the truth and who better to communicate the truth than the gifted artist?

New Hampshire’s Primary was perfect for a man who believed in his message.

Ronald Reagan connected with individual New Hampshire citizens who looked him in the eye and saw the genuine article and who shook his hand and felt the strength and stamina of the man who would withstand eight grueling years in the White House and survive a would-be assassin’s bullet.

New Hampshire helped Reagan communicate his message. In 1976, Granite State voters came within a whisker of having him topple a sitting President in our Primary. And in 1980, when the pundits and his enemies were calling him “too old” and “not up to the job,” voters here handed him the stunning, overwhelming Primary victory that would pave his way to the White House.

We have often felt that America is blessed with a truly extraordinary leader only once in a great while. One thinks of Washington and Lincoln, and the Roosevelts in that regard. And Ronald Wilson Reagan is part of that group.

He rescued this country from its national malaise, restored our pride and our military; and his steadfastness tore down the Evil Empire of Soviet communism, freeing millions and giving new hope to the world.

May God grant him the eternal rest he so richly deserves.

The media elite was very brutal to both President and Mrs. Reagan. It was during their administration that I began to realize that we have in this nation a group of people who are willing to print propaganda and lies to achieve their goals. It was President Reagan who gave me hope as I watched his strength in adversity, especially including his courage when his life was on the line after the assassination attempt. And, while I became very angry at the constant beating the left gave him, he never seemed to be upset by it..He just stayed with his beliefs and values. He truly was one of the greatest and I know he is enjoying his great eternal reward. God bless Mrs. Reagan and give her strength for the days ahead. Theirs was a very unique and unusual love story illustrated most of all through these years of the President's decline as Mrs. Reagan has demonstrated for all the world to see the unrelenting devotion and love she had for this beloved husband.

Reagan has been vindicated by history. The Democrats are falling over themselves to praise him. They know they have no other choice. :)

"I paid for this microphone, Mr. Green!"

I've been trying to find a still photo of that event. The video has been shown often and is a rare example of Reagan losing patience and snapping back in anger.

He misidentified the NH party official too, whose name was Breen.
