Between June 6 and June 12, Civil Homeland Defense of Tombstone will be deploying at least 40 skilled civilians into the field to help the beleagured U.S. Border Patrol "seal the border," as was promised by officials of DHS. Twenty-four hour patrols will be conducted in Palominas, a renowned hotbed of illegal alien border-crossers and drug smugglers. Saying that "civil homeland defense begins with securing our borders," Chris Simcox, editor of the Tombstone Tumbleweed and head of Civil Homeland Defense, has promised to guide volunteers from all over the United States to aid the federal government in the performance of its duties.
ABC (Arizona Border Control Initiative) promised to put 250 additional agents in Arizona, supplemented by UAV's (unmanned aerial vehicles) to track alien movement by June first. A spokesman for USBP admitted that only 25% of the additional agents promised have been deployed, and they are the "Bor-STAR" (Border Search And Rescue) agents, primarily to assist trespassers in distress. Experienced agents are still being "selected and transferred." There are no UAV's to guide agents to their targets, although the technology is available and ready.
While Robert Bonner in Washington blithely assures citizens that illegal immigration is declining, the Border Patrol statistics from the Tucson Sector tell the truth: illegal immigration for FY 2004 beginning in October through May 31, 2004 is up almost 60% over last year, at 337,481 apprehensions. IT is estimated that at least 1,700 aliens A DAY are apprehended crossing the border from Mexico into Arizona. And while the USBP will not release the number of illegal aliens arrested for other crimes committed either in Mexico or the United States, the rate of felony arrests is up over 800% over this time last year!
On Memorial Day weekend, the volunteers of Civil Homeland Defense spotted 150 illegals crossing and aided the Border Patrol in apprehending 45 of them. Border Patrol agents are getting scarcer and scarcer, as warm weather brings more flocks of illegals and potential terrorists swarming across Arizona's poorly-defended border.
Civil Homeland Defense' volunteers will do all they can to "shut the border down" in the Palominas area in June. There will be no charge to the government or the public for this service.
Not only that but an aircraft at that altitude could use slant range to their advantage. Also, somewhat of a (legal) necessity flying near the border.
Around here they seem to use only helicopters, mainly because they can land them just about anywhere. I know they have some fixed-wing, but we seldom see them.
Normally, they only have one chopper here in Cochise County. The rest are covering the really bad desert west of Nogales.
The sun is about to set. In a few minutes the CHD gang will start seeing the smuggler scouts crossing the border. Their job is to try and find out where the BP and other loco gringos are concentrating and report back to the coyotes.
An hour from now the nightly parade will begin.
What odds would you put on a group of a dozen or so Spanish speaking Moroccan AQ trained terrorists making it across the border with top-notch coyote help, say in groups of 3 or 4? A well funded operation, with help on both sides of the border. How many of the 12 would make it to Phoenix or Tucson to a safe house?
My least favorite nightmare.
As long as these guys were complete unknowns, had good Mexican documentation and good accents, their chances would be near certainty. If caught, they would just be voluntarily deported back into Mexico to try again.
A friend of mine once asked a coyote how many of his clients made it safely across the border. His reply: “All of them eventually, unless they give up.”
The coyotes charge from $30,000 to $50,000 to smuggle a Middle Eastern type. That kind of cash buys impeccable travel arrangements and a much lower chance of getting caught.
I call this a nightmare because I’m nearly certain most of your scenario has already happened. It’s just a question of how often and how many.
The Border Patrol refers to one section of the trails here in Cochise County as OTM Alley. Other Than Mexican. Whenever ABP or CHD finds a load-out site on OTM Alley, we always sift through the discarded trash, clothing, and backpacks very, very carefully. What we find can really spook you.
We find airline ticket stubs to Hermosillo, Mexico all over the Naco Corridor. The ones that we find on OTM Alley frequently have the top left corner carefully torn off – the part with the passenger’s name. Methinks the names were not of hispanic origin.
A while back we found an international drivers license on OTM Alley. It had been issued that morning in a town in northern Brazil and we found it on the eastern outskirts of Sierra Vista before dinner time. Think of the near split second travel arrangements required for that trick. Then ask why that IDL was no longer needed -- it was just backup ID while transitting Mexico City and Hermosillo.
I'm assuming it would not be too hard to acquire the correct travel papers to get them into and through Mexico unnoticed.

What kind of security checks are done between Brazil and southern Mexico, I wonder? For that matter, they could go by boat pretty easily also, from Brazil or Venezuela to Mexico.
No brainer. I'd send them first to the Three Corners area where Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay meet. Possibly the most lawless area in the world and it already has a known AQ presence.
Do mission preps and some training there, stage out of Colombia or Venezuala to Mexico, then northward to bother the infidel gringos.
Our first and only warning might be "Allahu Akbar!"

This just in and I had to share it…
A woman meets a SEAL in a bar. They talk; they connect; they end up leaving together.
They go back to his place. As he shows her around his apartment, she is struck by the fact that his bedroom is completely packed with literally hundreds of sweet, cuddly teddy bears which are neatly organized on three shelves running the length of the room along one wall.
Small, adorable teddy bears fill the bottom shelf, Cute Cuddly medium-sized ones adorn the next higher shelf and Huge enormous bears are perched on the top shelf.
The woman is quite surprised that a SEAL would have such an extensive collection of teddy bears. Although she decides not to question him about it, she's actually quite impressed by this unexpected evidence of his sensitive side!
After another drink, She turns to him, invitingly...they kiss softly...then again...
Soon their passion overwhelms them, and she leads him quietly to the bedroom.
After spending an intense night of passion with the SEAL, whle they are lying there together in the afterglow, the woman slowly rolls toward him and asks, smiling, "Well, how was it for you?"
The SEAL, stifling a slight yawn replies: "Help yourself to any prize from the bottom shelf."
This proves once and for all that SEALs are indeed very sensitive and caring people!
