Noonan: Reagan Commemoration Driving Media Nuts
NewsMax.com ^ | 07 June 2004 | Staff Reports

Posted on 06/06/2004 9:47:26 PM PDT by txradioguy

Reporters who regularly slammed Ronald Reagan while he was president are quietly seething now that they're forced to mouth platitudes about the man's greatness, former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan said Sunday night.

"[Journalists] are willing, over the next few days, to concede what is so obvious that they have to concede it - his personal goodness, etc.," Noonan told Matt Drudge on his radio show.

But with a solid week of commemorations for the conservative icon still ahead, liberal reporters will barely be able to contain themselves, she predicted.

"I'll bet they start pulling a few political [stunts] - kind of letting their biases out a little bit more. And I'll tell you, there's going to be an explosion next weekend [after Reagan is buried].

"That will mean that the elite journalistic media will have gone through seven days of talking kindly about Reagan," said Noonan. "I would say that by next Friday night, they're going to blow."

Remember - we don't care what ABCCBSNBC or any of the anchors have to say about Reagan or what they say about anything.

They are the minority party, they cannot stand that they are out of power AND they are low class, evil lovers who want to hate America first and want to rule it. Why would we ever care what they have to say about anything - they have no capability of seeing the qualities we see and admire. So who cares what they have to say about it?

Surprise, surprise, the liberal newsrooms are full of phoney-baloney sneaks and hypocrites. The greatest President of the 20th Century has died and all these scumbags can do is gnash their teeth. I would prefer that they do the honorable thing, like Admiral Boorda.

Sort of like after 9/11 ... first they had to acknowledge the obvious--that the terrorists were evil--but then after a while they burst out blaming America for everything.

We'd already noticed it yesterday when it was announced Reagan died... the other news channels were showing Iran/Contra footage and talking about Star Wars and about the timing of the hostage release from Iran. Even a couple of the FOX anchors (Shep, as mentioned by others and you) were walking really close to the edge, questioning his mental capacity at the end of his Presidency. They have no shame and always want to gossip.

If I were Shepard Smith, I'd be really careful about questioning anybody else's mental glitches. As the saying goes, there's probably a good number of people who'd rather give him a curb job than a...block party.

You have it exactly right. The media will be nice to Reagan and take it out on President Bush with a vengeance.

Even though I thought Shep Smith was walking a fine line of bashing Pres. Reagan last night.

Shep is definitely a Democrat. Hannity tried to get him to admit, but he wouldn't bite. However, it was written all over his face.

These people are cowards - Rather was crying on a late nite show after 9/11 .. not because of any heartfelt emotion over the 3000 lost, but because he was scared as hell.

The leaking has begun already .. Geraldine Ferraro made a smarmy comment about how she liked Reagan, but she wished there had been more substance. For my money .. Reagan had more substance in his little finger than Geraldine will ever have.

If these people let go .. and I believe they will .. they are going to be in for the biggest surprise when Bush gets 49 states in November. The dems will have the Clintons to thank for that resounding defeat.

There's a great quote from Stephen King:

"I've got a sneaky admiration for Dan Rather because I'm never sure when he's going to go bonkers on you. He always looks like he's gonna just stop and say, 'All right, m*****f*****s, here it comes. We've got the bodies in hangar 18, the government has been lying to you... ' And then they're going to drag him off."

Peggy is quite right.
This is a terrible tragedy for media.
He's so loved and they're so hated.

I just checked over on a liberal site (not DU) and one of the participants said that he was not going to watch TV for the next week due to the Reagan talk.

I think it would be a nice gesture if we all wore President Reagan buttons for awhile...

Here's one that's sure to please!

I saw some "I Miss President Reagan" buttons online but haven't tracked them down yet. I knew I should've saved that page!

In re-reading the Times article, the last couple of sentences sure appear to be a slam at President Bush.

They blow now. And suck. Simultaneously. Quite an accomplishment.

Don't spread rumors .. it's stupid. If you don't like Shep that's your choice.
