June 7, 2004 -- A stricken nation yesterday prepared to grant the late "Great Communicator" his final wish — that he lie in state on both coasts so that ordinary folk could pay their respects. The elaborate funeral plans for former President Ronald Reagan, which he personally helped design years ago, include having a white, horse-drawn caisson carry his body through the streets of Washington, D.C., to the Capitol Rotunda — much like the funeral of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.

His carriage will be followed by a single drummer.

To mark Reagan's state funeral Friday, President Bush yesterday declared the day a federal holiday and ordered the federal government to shut down.

He also declared Friday a national day of mourning.

I will be in mourning Friday as I go to work to pay for the government boobs to get a free vacation day with pay.

This stinks, period.

I'm sure President Reagan would have approved of the federal employees getting yet another day off at the taxpayers expense....not!

In a twisted way, the occasional unexpected Federal holiday boosts the local economy here in DC. Since it's not snowing, you won't be able to find a mall parking space anywhere.

So, while it's a hit on the tax payers, it'll be good for the local economy.

What I find most ironic is that a majority of the federal employees probably did not or would not have even voted for former President Reagan.

Most of them should get them same holiday He gave the Air Traffic Controllers as his first official act as President.
