Wasn't the assassinated PM also a homosexual-rights activist, who warned about the growing Islamic influence in the Netherlands and its effect on "gay rights?" I know he was portrayed as a right-winger for being "intolerant" of immigrants, but does anyone know the whole story?

It will be interesting to see how things play out in the US - will the left demand "tolerance" towards "intolerant" immigrants?

If memory serves, the late Fortuyn would have been more of a libertarian in this country if anything.

The party that both he and Hirsi Ali belong to are akin to a more classicly libertarian mindset (i.e., economic/military conservatism, but more moderate in terms of social issues; though Hirsi Ali, as this piece points out, is far more conservative when it comes to the "religion of peace").

He was Gay, and he was for reforming the welfare system. He also feared the impact of Islamic immigrants who don't assimilate and bring theocratic ideas with them. He was killed by an animal rights extremist.
