The ways of the Lord are right...and if we will remember Him and that, we will do fine.

I have heard time and time again on numerous threads on FR that folks wish that they could pay tribute to the President or be in DC or Simi Valley......and I certainly understand that.

There IS a way to honor the President. Organize a vigil in your hometown. Go to www.reaganvigil.com or just start emailing your lists in your city. Or announce it through a church phone tree. Whatever, however. Start talking about it on your local news talk radio station. There are lots of ways to get a vigil going.

Reagan revolutionized communications in ways that people seem to be forgetting here -- he developed an office in the Communcations Dept of the White House that did nothing but deal with LOCAL press. He preferred to deal with local press because that is where the people were -- the chattering classes inside the Beltway weren't going to like him and he wasn't going to let that deter him. He was going to get his message to the American people DESPITE the best efforts of DC media.

So take a page out of Reagan's book. Host a candlelight vigil in your town. It is immaterial if it is five people on a street corner holding candles and singing Amazing Grace.

Just do it! DC is not the end-all, be-all for activity as much as its inhabitants would like to think so.

So please, please, please -- get out there and organize a vigil in your hometown!

You are correct in your urgings and I applaud you for it...but myself, mother and son will be heading down to Simi Valley (about 800-900 miles) because the historical and personal impact and feelings are just too compelling...so we are making the time and denero available.

I realize not everyone will be compelled, desire, or be able to do such a thing...and for anyone like that, I join you in your urging them to organize something locally and use the FRN site to do so.

Thank you for that...please let us know the outcome, environment, your experiences and the feelings. I know they are going to be outstanding.

We are off to Simi Valley tomorrow morning to try and be there at the entrance to the Library when he is returned there Friday for burial.

God's speed!

Elegy for a Lost Leader

The spring blossoms weep in their pinks and their whites,
The forest greens shake and shimmer in sights.
The rain now sweeps down on this hushed silent day
As the clouds wring their waters to quench our dismay.

Now coolness creeps in to stir the front page
A breeze to pass shadows that absorb his old age.
The sun now has set but leaves lines cross the land,
Glimpses of freedom, the skies hold his hand.

We are the grieving beneath the night sky
Who watched him cast ‘way the world’s sad supply.
We hold to his memory as a spark that lives on,
Hearing his laughter that lightened as dawn.

And we the new readers, generations apart,
look to the glory contained in his heart.
Up to the heavens that hold this great man,
Seeking God’s mercy, His unanswered plan.

We search for a scent of his leftover trail,
We walk through the fragrance of life, oh so frail.
We hold to the wisps of the sunshine, his smile,
And we breathe in his wisdom to echo his style.

Thank you so much for posting that here. Very well done.

The rain now sweeps down on this hushed silent day

Heaven weaping for the passing of a great spirit from off the face of the earth...and weeping for joy at his return home.
