Kerry's Final Three for Vice President (Iowa Gov. Vilsack, Sen. John Edwards and ??)

Washington Whispers

Senator Kerry's Final Three

Kerry campaign insiders tell us that the Vice Presidential selection team is down to three finalists.

They won't say who they are, but we hear that Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack remains the front runner and that North Carolina United States Senator John Edwards is in the pack.

Senator Edwards is liked inside Kerry headquarters, as evidenced by the Edwards bumper stickers in some cubicles.

Ford has been conspicuously loyal to Kerry for a reason. He is not stupid...he is rather frightening in a way.

As I say, watch him closely. I can almost see him warming up to relaunch the Democrats as "New Democrats" once the current crop of retreads and has beens (including Her Bitchiness) fall on their arse.

Harold Ford is not eligible as he will not be 35 years old by inaguration day.

Bill Richardson carries a lot of national security baggage that can be exploited from his time heading Energy.

Mark Warner is a nobody and nobody knows him. Plus he is not camera friendly and he has braces. Not an image old Horse Face wants up next to his mug.

Personally, I think the one wild card that has never been mentioned and surprisingly so is Max Cleland of GA. Vietnam vet, amputee (though it is his own fault), former senator, and loved by the democratic base.

The democrats are still angry at the way they perceive he was treated by Bush and Saxby. Plus, he legitimatly would stand a chance of bringing Georgia into the Kerry column, and thus, if all other states hold from 2000, Kerry wins.

They just want it to be a big surprise so the media can go ga-ga over it later.

Today Sen. Kerry, the democratic nominee for presidnet announced his running mate. Kerry, who has plenty of gravitas of his own picked someone who brings even more gravitas to the campaign..."

Bob Kerrey or Up-Chuck Hagel. That will ensure a Bush landslide in Nebraska.

Is there anyone that looks like Oliver Hardy that is a possible VP candidate since F'n is a Stan Laurel lookalike.

Hillary has categorically said she's not going to do a lot of things she later did. Such as saying she would never run for elected office.

Since when did such things as "rules" bother Democrats?

Bill Richardson carries a lot of national security baggage that can be exploited from his time heading Energy.

We can safely assume the media will ignore this.

Mark Warner is a nobody and nobody knows him.

That's actually an advantage for a Democrat. The fellow who came up with the saying "familiarity breeds contempt" obviously had to work with a lot of them.

It'll be Gephardt. Kerry needs someone on the ticket who's duller than himself.

Cleland is an interesting choice, but he wouldn't win GA for Kerry. He couldn't even win reelection as a Senate incumbent, and the Presidential race in GA leans even more GOP.

If were going to start with obscure Democratic midwestern governors with no political records.. (ie no dirt in their past) how about Kathy Sebielus of Kansas?

Bill Nelson or Mary Landreau.

Richardson would be a good choice. Also Graham or Nelson from Florida. After 2000, Flordia is a magical rallying call for these liberals. It gives them a vehicle for building up phoney emotion and venom (as if they needed any).

Gov. Krispy Kreme out in NM has the physique.

Edwards must be taking it hard if he's already been told that he isn't the guy, his whole campaign was basically a bid for the veep spot! (plus he dumped his Seante seat as well)

I think it really isn't up to Kerry. I think the DNC really calls the shots. They got lots of money too. They can just decide to spend it on Senate and House races instead of Presidential ads. If it looks winnable to them, they'll go with Hillary and Kerry will step down due to health concerns, after the nomination. That will suck all the air out of everything until November. I think the writing is on the wall for the Dems. They can't win. Kerry is the sacrificial lamb. I would go with Sam Nunn as VP, but he has too much class to accept. Gotta be Nelson out of Florida, hoping for replay of 2000.
