Federal Agents Raid Of Motel Remains Mysterious (Kentucky - June 21st)

Government Remains Tight-Lipped Following FBI Raid

The federal government remains tight-lipped about what FBI agents were looking for at a Whitley County Days Inn. Agents raided the Williamsburg motel, taking office equipment. Employees say agents also took items that looked dangerous.

There's growing concern of employees and neighbors. There is very little known about why FBI, ATF, customs and immigration agents closed in on the Days Inn Monday.

A federal search warrant was served and several items were taken from several rooms at the motel. Phyllis Hays, like many of the people who live near the Williamsburg Days Inn, doesn't like what she's hearing about what was found inside the motel. "It's pretty scary when you really don't know what's going on."

A former employee of the motel says explosive type devices were taken from a laundry room and another room. With children playing close by, that news is frightening to nearby parents. "I heard they were supposed to be hidden in the laundry room which is right near our back door. Whether they found anything or not...I don't know." An FBI spokesman says no arrests were made from the raid but that several people were questioned. Boxes of files and computer equipment were taken out. Federal officials won't confirm what else was removed, but many people are hearing the same rumors.

Jimmy Goins listened to some of the speculation, hearing that "some bombs, explosives, things of that nature" were taken. Resident J.R. Dunigan adds he heard there were "some timers...and some other bunch of bull--something about a bomb--I don't know--just hearsay." A young man who said he worked at the motel says he doesn't know why agents raided the motel. He says the employees that work at the motel did nothing wrong and it was just business as usual Tuesday.

The owners of the motel have not been charged with any crime. The FBI will not say what they removed from the motel, what they were looking for, or if the nationality of the owners played a role in the search. It's owned by two people who are from another country. Link to Article

Patrol Uniforms 'Made in Mexico'

By Jerry Seper THE WASHINGTON TIMES New Border Patrol uniforms, ordered in the wake of the agency's transfer last year to the Department of Homeland Security, arrived this month and some agents are not very happy: The new uniforms were "Made in Mexico."

"I'm embarrassed, not only as a Border Patrol agent but as an American citizen, that our government has decided to outsource the production of these uniforms with no regard for the safety of the process or the security of our country," said Joseph N. Dassaro, president of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) Local 1613 in San Diego Link to Article

Two Students Die, one Hospitalized with Mysterious Illnesses in N.Va.

Officials say the illnesses are only a coincidence, but area parents are worried about their children The Associated Press Jun 20, 2004 CHANTILLY - Two Northern Virginia students have died from mysterious illnesses and another has been hospitalized with similar symptoms, health officials said.

Courtney "Kay" Richard, a 16-year-old sophomore at Chantilly High School, had been hospitalized for four days before dying Thursday from an unidentified form of meningitis. A 12-year-old boy from the Chantilly area also died Thursday from a mysterious illness, although health officials believe his death was not caused by meningitis.

Another 16-year-old student from Chantilly High School has been hospitalized with similar symptoms, officials said Friday. Her identity was not released, but health officials told The Washington Post that she was in stable condition at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

While officials say the two deaths and illness are a coincidence, news sparked concern among parents in the area. "I would just like to know - where did she get it?" said Elizabeth Wright, whose daughter was a friend of Richard's. "It seems very random, and my kids are healthy, but I think as far as we know, Courtney was healthy, too."

According to lab tests, Richard did not appear to have bacterial meningitis, the more deadly form of the disease. But tests for the more common viral meningitis also came back negative. "Every test that could be ordered has been ordered, and everything has come back negative so far," said Kimberly Cordero, spokeswoman for the Fairfax County Health Department. "Nothing is being ruled out."

Meningitis is an infection of the fluid that surrounds the brain and the spinal cord. The symptoms typically are severe headaches, a stiff neck, sensitivity to bright light, drowsiness, confusion, nausea and vomiting. The illness is spread by direct contact with bodily fluids such as the saliva or the mucus of an infected person. Virginia Department of Health spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said bacterial meningitis is life-threatening if not properly treated, but viral meningitis is rarely fatal.

Health officials said equally puzzling was the death Thursday of the 12-year-old Franklin Middle School student. Cordero said he did not show any symptoms of meningitis before dying at his home. A cause of death could take up to a week to determine, she said. "It didn't appear to be meningitis," Cordero said. "We know that the child died suddenly as opposed to having symptoms first and then becoming more ill." Link to Article

This EOM posting is in fact mostly old news.

Everything following these lines is exactly the same as the posting from January 28, 2004:

"The next few hours will bring the beginning of what you fear for.

The Brigades are ready and in place. Assalamu Alaikum In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of Creation. The Compassionate, The Merciful, King of Judgement Day."

"Insurgency boils up in Thailand"

"INSURGENCY"? How about "INHUMAN BARBARIC SAVAGERY"?

I don't want to come across as bloodthirsty, however, how do you stop these acts unless you teach them that "WHAT YOU DO COMES BACK AT YOU!" This is one method of providing that instruction to them. Not the best method, but still, one method.

At least people are paying attention to things that seem suspiscious even if the concern proves unfounded.

I feel as though I should be carrying a gun with me when I go out.

You should be, but, you will have to leave California first.

I agree, the day you run out of dreams is the beginning of the end.

I always had 10 more goals, but no longer and I hate it.

I don't think you come across as bloodthirsty at all. I think it is a good lesson for them to send to the Taliban (even if it doesn't change anything in the long run). I would not go so far as to advocate the US responding in such a way but beheading is still a fairly common practice throughout the Middle/Far East. I think they should expect what they dish out in return.

Love to see a pic of the place. In fact I'll bet I have. Does it have a rock facia? Like the Flintstones?

Anyway, it does take one to know one.

Radioactive package missing (New Zealand)

Package containing radioactive product used for cancer package missing from warehouse in Auckland

23 June 2004 Auckland police have issued an urgent warning after a radioactive package was reported missing from a courier company's warehouse near Auckland International Airport.

The white cardboard box contains a small glass ampoule holding a radioactive product which is contained in a lead box surrounded by dry ice. The substance is used for treating cancer patients.

The package is labelled with radioactive warning signs and should not be touched or opened because the contents could cause radiation burns. Anyone swallowing the substance will need immediate medical attention. Police are unsure if the package has been stolen or just accidentally picked up. Link to Article
