June 11, 2004 A semi truck fire closed down part of I-80/94 near Gary, Ind. One of the truck's tandem trailers is fully engulfed in flames. The area near 27th and Van Buren in Gary has been evacuated. Officials stopped traffic in both lanes of the freeway near mile marker 9.2 at first but have now reopened the right two lanes on the eastbound side. The westbound lanes remain closed.
No injuries are reported.
Police do not know what is in the trailer.
(1st seen over at another news group site, like last time I posted)
From what I've heard, the whole city of Gary could use a good fire.
A HOT load?
what was is carrying? is it a gasoline tanker?
Gee thanks [rolling eyes]. I went to high school about four or five blocks from where this fire is going on.
On a Friday afternoon, too? The damage is done. I'm sure westbound is backed up well past I-65 by now; and eastbound? Probably backed up to the state line.
Glad my folks aren't out in that mess (I hope).
Aren't the Jacksons from Gary?
Whew! Good thing it wasn't a whole truck fire.
"A HOT load?"
...of anvils and band uniforms...
And didn't you ever want your school to burn down? I did!
The third picture is especially happy...
what does it say? is it a hazardous materials sign?
"Inhalation Hazard"
What, ya'll have popcicle sticks every tenth of a mile up there?
Yeah, what do you all have down there? Armadillo tails?
Armadillos are speed bumps, but they soften up after a few days. Crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle.
I was born and raised in East Chicago IN. (next door) and while it wasn`t much to brag about, I can tell you that most of the northern end of Gary has already made some use of fire. With row after row of abandoned, burned out, and boarded up homes, it`s a wonderful example of liberalism and it`s darling welfare state at work, and given the outrageous property tax rates of the predominantly Dummycratic Lake County, there`s a snowball`s chance in hell its going to get any better. What a pity since many of those homes were at one time rather nice brick structures.
