When Franklin Roosevelt died in 1945, the New York Times wrote, "Men will thank God 100 years from now that Franklin D. Roosevelt was in the White House."
It will not take a 100 years to thank God for Ronald Reagan. But why? Why was he so admired? Why was he so beloved?

IIRC, this is where President GH Bush started to choke up and I think that the image of Maureen in heaven with her father, reminded him of the loss of his own daughter when she was three.
No, he started to lose his composure when he uttered the words that entitle this thread.

Exactly there. For a moment, I thought he might lose it even more. What a sweet eulogy.
Since Gorbechev was being beaten up so bad, I'm glad that X41 gave him the compliment that he did. You know that Jimmy Carter was squirming at the "malaise" he himself described and Reagan's rescuing us from it. It was another classy move for George W. to compliment Carter in his talk.
I thought Mrs. Thatcher gave the most eloquent eulogy, but Bush I gave the most moving one. And the fact that he was the only person I heard all week, that mentioned Maureen was characteristic of the man.
I was also very impressed that Mrs. Thatcher made the trips, both to D.C. and California, for both funerals. Earlier in the week, reports said she would not be able to attend, due to her health. And due to her strokes, she pre-filmed her eulogy, but clearly, her friendship with Reagan overrode her health concerns. I'm afraid her own state funeral may be sooner, rather than later.
Margaret Thatcher also included kind words for Gorbachev in her talk, which was nice. How could she have known when she recorded them that he would also come to the service?
I listened to a replay of her eulogy on the radio today, and it was even more moving than watching it on TV. Somehow radio connects to a different part of the brain, making things more clear. (For me, anyway.)
Just read that Gorbachev is spending the weekend in Texas to celebrate Bush 41's 80th birthday. Too cool!

Proof once again that the NY Slimes doesn't have a clue what its talking about. It took Reagan to fix FDR main phuck up in trusting Joesph Stalin that lead to millions of innocent deaths and 40 years of the Cold War!
