Rush Limbaugh, Wife Set to Divorce

Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh announced Friday that he and his wife, Marta, are divorcing.

The Limbaughs "mutually decided to end their marriage of 10 years" and have "separated pending an amicable resolution," according to a statement released by Limbaugh's publicist.

The couple shared a $24 million oceanfront mansion in nearby Palm Beach, from where Limbaugh often broadcast his daily three-hour show.

Spokesman Tony Knight said the matter was personal and declined further comment.

It was the third marriage for both Limbaugh, 53, and his 44-year-old wife, who were wed May 27, 1994, at the Virginia home of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Thomas officiated the ceremony.

The past several months have been difficult for the politically and socially conservative Limbaugh, who announced in October that he was entering drug rehabilitation because he was addicted to prescription painkillers.

At the same time, West Palm Beach prosecutors announced they were investigating whether Limbaugh illegally went "doctor shopping" to obtain the pills. The practice refers to visiting several doctors to receive duplicate prescriptions of controlled narcotics.

Limbaugh, who has not been charged with any crime, has repeatedly fought back against the charges and negative publicity he's received over the matter.

Last month, he took out full-page ads in two Florida newspapers to attack prosecutors for mounting what he called a politically motivated investigation. He also regularly lashes out against prosecutors and reporters and defends himself during his show.

The criminal case against Limbaugh is on hold pending a decision from a Florida appeals court. It will decide whether the seizure of Limbaugh's medical records, which were taken by investigators in November, violated privacy laws.

Prosecutors say they need the records to determine whether to bring charges against Limbaugh.

The media chatter is that she is leaving him.

Yeah, but three times?

Hey, I always win those door prizes at the computer language conferences.

It could happen.

I'll grant that it could happen to a person that was extraordinarily naive. But to an intelligent and thoughtful person like RL? The probability is so small as to be unmeasurable.

Like the time I suggested that Bush was not conservative enough for my tastes.

Now there you go again.

I guess all those freepers that were onto something was not right between Rush and Marta were absolutely on target.

Rush strikes me as a difficult person to live with. He is an addictive personality through and through, and it shows in many ways. But who the heck knows what Marta has brought to the marriage? Frankly, it's their business.

I just wish he would get himself together, he has so much to offer. And all these personal problems get in the way of a very good message, and of someone who is one of the sharpest political and social analysts out their today.

Ahhh, sweet recognition! I'm so sweet I didn't even bring up the fact that the 900-post pre-existing thread has also been in Breaking News since yesterday afternoon.

The media chatter is that she is leaving him.

I would tend to believe this - I think he was truly, truly in love with this woman, and that she was his reason for losing weight.

It's possible he's not the easiest person in the world to live with, after all, look at the people who call him every day to tell him how wonderful he is. Very possible that she got tired of his ego. Not a very good reason to get a divorce, though.

What did Bush have to do with this, and where does Hector the poolboy fit in?

Does anybody here really want to know where, or what, Hector "fits in"?

I mean, ick.

an intelligent and thoughtful person like RL?

There are many ways to describe Rush, but  intelligent and thoughtful don't work.  He's uneducated and glories in it.  He thoughtlessly pigeon holes strangers with a we/them mentality.  I listen to him everday because he's polite, hard working, entertaining, humorous, and optimistic.  If he were intelligent and thoughtful too that would be great but I'll be happy with him the way he is.

Just because someone does not have a degree does not make them uneducated. I know pleanty of "educated" people who are extremely ignorant. (one person I privatly regard as uneducated and illiterate is a sitting judge)

Rush's positions are thought out and he is at the very minimum learned in his area of expertise.

Haven't remarried and don't know if I ever will.

You guys could always just find someone you don't like and buy them a house.   A lot less trouble than marriage.

Many a day he has saved me from kicking a liberal. He does it for me.

I miss Dr. Keyes' programme. When he did "America's Wake Up Call" and made his show "Impeachment Central", it was an absolute necessity. It is a pity he did not continue - that was my absolute favourite.

Regards, Ivan

If one person wants a divorce and the other doesn't, only the lawyers win. In the end there is a bitter divorce.

I listen to him for his political analysis, not marriage counseling.

Well, what are you? Some kind of moral failure? The shock! The horror!

A person doesn't need to be perfect to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
