When did smoking become a real sin?

Since when did it become a trait to be admired and emulated?

Eisenhower smoked. Can't emulate him.
Reagan smoked. Can't emulate him.
John Wayne smoked. Can't emulate him.
It's getting hard to find anyone to believe in. Maybe smoking won't be the final discriminator.

Don't let liberals set the standard.

Rush works hard. Sets goals. Pays his dues. Honors his parents and his heroes. Is honest. Entertains. Speaks out for what's right.

Yea, you're right. Nothing to emulate there.

Like a piece of paper automatically makes a person smarter...  ...It is entirely possible to educate oneself

And Rush did a wonderful job of educating himself about being a great talk show host.  He just never got around to educating himself on a number of the other things of which he speaks so convincingly.   But hey, I don't mind, I know when he's making things up and it doesn't bother me.  It really shouldn't bother you all either.

Some people complain that Rush takes complex issues with many shades of gray, ignores the uncertainties, picks out his favorite direction and yells "CHARGE"!   All I have to say to those complainers is "picky picky picky".  After all, that's what leaders are supposed to do.

Maybe the reason that you all and I don't see eye to eye is that I don't consider myself one of Rush's 'followers'.  Actually, I'm one of his employers.  Don't worry, I think in general he's doing a great job and I intend to keep him on for a while.

Or maybe that isn't the reason we don't see eye to eye. No matter, have a pleasant night anyway.

Part of the work I do is patching and revising bad marriages. I have couples who have at times, separated for more than a year, work out thier issues and pull themselves back together. It is amazing work. There are even day treatment programs for foundering marriages.

The one common denominator in the marriages that successfully revive is that they have a supernatural commitment to the marriage. The issue isn't what should I do next? Instead the issue is framed as how can I best work things out.

I think that he is attractive in that "really nice man" attractive way.

Divorce is now a "no fault" action in most or all states. That is, there doesn't need to be a showing of mistreatment; one party acting alone can obtain a divorce; consent of the other is not required.

So, is a person whose spouse divorces him/her guilty of abandoning the marriage? No.

Is a person who consents to a divorce to avoid a public catfight, knowing the other will obtain it anyway, guilty of abandoning the marriage?

I don't know, but think not.

I wonder how much Marta plans to extract from Rush?

I bet the liberal media would love for her to turn on Rush. Look for her media appearances to start to increasing. Maybe a book deal...and I see a potential new career in the media for her now that she's divorcing.

Didn't Reagan's ex, Jane Wyman's career revive itself in the '80's when Reagan became president?

I first listened to him back in 1990. The more I listened to him the more dismayed I became that his was the "voice of mainstream conservatism."

When the libs started calling him ultraconservative I thought a)this country is worse off than I thought and b) if he's a conservative then I'm a hottentot.

[ It's getting harder and harder to reconcile his behavior with his rhetoric.]

Good point.... true...
Rush talking at me doped up for the last several years made a dope out of me. I can live with that more or less. The Palm Beach D.A. is probably an Icehole., OK. His wife rides a broom, maybe, maybe not. A 24 million dollar home speaks of excess. But what do I care. Big money, serial marriage, drug addiction, seems to go with a few other things.

(finger on my face below my EYE)... Rush I have my eye on you big fella..
Your life don't appear to be conservative at all...
Is your politics, merely an act for the RUBES ?.

I apologize. I mis-read what you said. I thought you were saying that Rush was an opportunist and a gold digger. I didn't realize you ment Marta.

In that case I have to agree with you. She stuck with him through the "health" and the "richer" parts...but not the "sickness" and the "poorer" parts of their marriage.

"if he's a conservative then I'm a hottentot."

Nice to meet you. I've never met an actual hottentot.

Have you thought that maybe Rush is mainstream conservative and it's YOU that is in the fringe?

Didn't think that had ocurred to you.

3 marriages, 3 divorces.

Now tell me how any person who finds this acceptable can be an advocate for "traditional marriages"?

Rush just said that the divorce is at his request, not Marta's. So everyone who has been bashing Marta for not standing by him can relax now.
