Jerusalem - The Jewish Agency is bracing itself for the immigration of tens of thousands French Jews into Israel as a result of a growing anti-Semitism in France, a spokesperson for the organisation said on Sunday.
Senior government officials including Immigration Absorption Minister Tzippi Livni, cabinet director Ilan Cohen and the president of the quasi-governmental Jewish Agency, Sallai Meridor, met last week "to work out how to come to the help of potential Jewish immigrants from France", Yaden Vatikai told AFP.
Vatikai said that a report compiled by the agency had found 30 000 out of France's 575 000-strong Jewish community were considering immigrating to Israel.
"We are multiplying our efforts to encourage in this case, particularly with an information campaign," he said.
Jews living in France say that they are victims of a growing tide of anti-Semitic crime.
French Justice Minister Dominique Perben said last week that 180 anti-Jewish acts had been recorded so far this year, including cases of assault, arson and verbal insults.
His ministry said no comparison was available with previous years because this was the first time that anti-Jewish acts were being recorded in such detail.
Vatikai said the situation for French Jews was becoming increasingly "difficult".
"Yeah, because we all know there aren't any Americans who might be employable, such that this suggestion to discriminate on the basis of religion and national origin is justifiable."
They are a hugely successful and talented people. I would imagine they would create far more prosperity than they would take. In recent years, American Jews have founded companies like Dell, Intel, Cisco and Oracle. If French Jews could only do half as well, the U.S. would be getting quite some deal.

Creating jobs is not what the original poster was suggesting. I'm all for allowing people with capital into the country to start businesses, but the suggestion was to give them special treatment in terms of employment. One makes sense, the other is simple discrimination.

All 575,000 Jews must be out of France by the end of this decade. The combination of leftist anti-semitism and Islamic hatred will make it impossible to be a Jew inside of France by then. I'm glad they have started to wake up and get out.
Something tells me the Jews of the world are going to need every square inch of the Biblical Homeland soon. Sharon and all the secular Zionists, as well as the peaceniks, had better think long and hard about this.

Yes, it is bad, very bad, and likely to get worse. I was reading something about Anne Frank the other day, and learned that her family went to Holland from another country (oh, now I can't remember which one, maybe Austria? Frank is a pretty German name) and thought they would be safe there. Look what happened to them!
I feel that this growing anti-semitism is a very, very bad sign for us all. And evidently some Saudis have already decided to just kill westerners where ever and when ever they find them.

FDR refused admittance to European Jews during the Hitler years. After the war, many of the survivors came to America and brought with them wonderful talents. Music, art, science, education all greatly benefited.

Yup, the French should pay their Jewish citizens to stay after all they are the last buffer between the Moslimes and the non Jewish, non Moslime citizenry.
