VEEP WEEKEND FOR HANOI JOHN?
National Review Corner (blog) ^ | 6/17/04 | Kathryn Jean Lopez

Posted on 06/17/2004 3:02:27 PM PDT by Steven W.

VEEP WEEKEND [KJL] There is buzzing that Kerry may announce this weekend and Democratic sources in the south are saying that Edwards has a clear schedule for the weekend. They take that to mean one thing....but someone may be saying that in Missouri, too, etc.... Watch the Kerry Spot for more as things develop (or as Jim Geraghty stomps on lies and debunks Corner rumor mongering). Posted at 05:26 PM

RE: VEEP WEEKEND [KJL] For the record, I don't buy the buzz. Would seem stupid for Kerry to announce his veep when everyone is in Clinton ME ME ME mode. Posted at 05:43 PM

RE: KERRY [Mark R. Levin] More than his veep, I'd like to know who he would appoint at Defense, State, CIA and Justice. That would tell us much about his seriousness in fighting the war on terror, to the extent we don't already know. Posted at 05:46 PM

TOPICS: Constitution/Conservatism; Crime/Corruption; Culture/Society; Foreign Affairs; Government; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: edwards; gephardt; kerry; mccain; veep
The only thing that would make sense to me for Kerry to move so quickly is outright embarassment over being jilted by John McCain - but to pick somebody like Edwards, with such a lack of gravitas (only real experience as a trial lawyer after all) could be a real blow to his campaign IMHO. As for Levin's question, isn't Teddy Kennedy a lock on Secretary of State?

No Way.

Guessing about the VP is the only reason for the networks to cover the convention.

Pew poll out after Reagan funeral shows Bush now up 4 over Kerry - that could force Kerry to make a desperation move and these veep / Edwards rumblings sound just like that.

It's mid June. As I recall, Albore didn't pick Lieberman until sometime in the middle of summer, say late July/early August. If Kerry's supremely desperate to get noticed, he'd do this now, but he'd have nothing to build on going into the convention.

I don't think he'll do it, but nothing Kerry does surprises me anymore.

Be careful...you might give the networks an excuse not to cover the Republican convention at all.

The one person who could really hurt Bush if he agreed to be Kerry's running mate is Colin Powell, but that is hard to imagine happening.

Gore named Lieberman on August 8th. One week before the convention.

Yep, that's around the timeframe I thought.

If he named a running mate this early, it'd be a desperation move. Pure and simple.

As a lifeguard, Teddy would make an excellent lifeRAFT.

More like a booze-barge.

If sh*t didn't float he'd have died under a bridge long ago.

Why would the fat drunken slob want to leave his job for life in the Senate? Especially with a Republican governor in office. If Kerry was to win Fat Ted would stay in the Senate and pull all Kerry's strings from there.

"I don't think he'll do it, but nothing Kerry does surprises me anymore."

I think that's the converse.................when John F'n "flip-flop" Kerry does SOMETHING (apart from ride his bike in circles) THEN it's a surprise.
