In her case, it might be partly genetic combined with her probable use of the available "entertainment" drugs beginning in the late 50s.
Her teen years would have exposed her to the bizarre culture of the theater simply because of her family's acting legacy.
Then the incredible luck where movie producers were willing to overlook signs of her instability in favor of her acting ability as well as the Redgrave name and there's a recipe for madness if ever there was one.
Sounds a lot like Hanoi Jane, doesn't it?

What in the world do these people want or think? Why don't they want freedom or rational progress? Why do the left so hate the Jews and Israelis? What are they afraid of? Why do they want to control everybody? Why are they so predictable.
Why do they hate their own country (if they're Americans)? What's so bad about freedom, democracy, capitalism and standing up to fascists and primitive, backward, repressive religions and philosopies? I don't get it. Anybody know some answers? Theories?
